How’s this for a cross fox? I just bought this thing raw off a young Conservation Officer who trapped it up in Churchill. Im good friends with his dad and it looks like he’s following in his footsteps and becoming a big trapping CO. Paid him a bit more than the last top lot…lol.

Looks like a sampson,or badly rubbed.

It is a very poor X fox , if it is a cross fox. About the bottom of the barrel for color and looks very rubbed. I think it is just a rubbed red fox. I know that is not what you want to hear, but it what I see.

The colour is all kinds of different shades. Wonder how it would’ve graded? Obviously poorly as it’s on its own. Will find out in March when he comes back down.

Definately very rubbed. Would have to have seen it fully furred to know if it is a cross or not.

I’ve inspected in person the cross fox catalog at both FH and the old NAFA. You would be amazed at what they call a cross fox. Everything from silvers to reds and every where inbetween. Not sure what the graders use as a criteria!!

So you’re looking at the flanks and lack of long guard hair all over?
I guess “cross” is just that, everything in between…lol

I snared five like that on New Years day 1980. It was 55 below when I picked 'em up. I was stoked until I got them thawed out

Ive never seen anything but reds out here. Looks like there may have been a silver on the cam last summer, but it so hard to tell with night pics.

I have seen fox looking alot worse then that one.

Sold this one for good money. Softest fur on any animal I’ve ever caught. Don’t think there was a guard hair anyplace on it

I think that’s a normal Red Fox just rubbed down to the under fur making it look a tad darker in those spots.

It’s criminal red fox are not worth more, they’re so pretty . I’ve got a few tanned including the first cross I ever caught.
