The middle class utilize the same infrastructure as the wealthy, I don’t think just because someone is working harder and risking more they should have to pay more for the same use. The military is going to provide the same protection as well. Those are really the only thing the government needs to be concerned with. The law makers need a job and it shouldn’t be the government. Gather, vote on presented legislation then go home to your job. Kind of like the National Guard.

Almost everybody pay taxes, just not income taxes.

My understanding under the fair tax plan is that necessities are not taxed. So the low income folks essentially still will not be paying any taxes.

I like the plan but it will never be accepted by our current congresses as they cannot budget for the following year and have no way of estimating how much revenue they will receive.

My granddaughters home school is taught on the computer by teachers from wherever they want to sit in front of a computer. The teachers wages are paid by a school district that set up the homeschool, hundreds of miles away. I bet some property tax is funding some of that but not mine or my daughters, we pay the local schools costs.

Grandson does the same, online home schooling.

I'd rather see the step process for making more you pay more as it is now with a lot of the no tax paying schemes cut off !

I would also like to see the forever never ending property tax stopped after one buy's their home, and the property tax paid in the payment at time of saving worked out over the period of the loan. When your home is paid for your property tax is as well, unless you can pay that tax at time of signing the title to the property. If you are building on that property then you will be taxed once for the value of the house when finished and it's added into the payment of the total purchase.

The value of the home and property still advance no wishes that to stop, so whom ever buys it when it's up for sale will still pay the new value but the payment is still a onetime affair.

As it is now that property is charged into perpetuity to the family passing it down, or another buying it, it never stops and the only one reaping that benefit is the government, this was a sure minded thing when it passed into law, due to people not standing up against it, and lots of laws are the same way as now people are not even represented properly when our congress or state congress's meet to amend or add any laws !

No one ever sees anything else they own continue a property tax on ownership like a home does, this is out right stealing value from the owner !

They wouldn’t pay the same amount, they would pay the same percentage of their income.

So pretend it’s 10% Of their annual income for federal taxes.

33k would pay $3,300
200k would pay $20,000

One pays more than the other.

And depending on where a person lives $200k is far from rich.

Below is the current tax rate, not including all the deductions and tax credits and such that some folks get to take advantage of.

Agreed on property taxes. It’s the rent the charge to live on their land that we pretend to own.

Property taxes are the rent you pay to be able to live on the land you rent from the government.

"What Property Taxes Pay For
Local property taxes fund a variety of services and projects that benefit the community. Here are some of the primary areas where property tax revenues are allocated:

School Systems: A significant portion of property taxes goes towards funding public schools, including building and maintaining facilities and paying teacher salaries.
Public Safety: Property taxes support the salaries and supplies for firefighters, police officers, emergency medical technicians (EMTs), and other public safety workers. They also cover legal payouts for misconduct and personal injury lawsuits.
Infrastructure: These taxes help finance the construction and maintenance of roads, bridges, and other essential infrastructure.
Recreational Facilities: Property taxes contribute to the upkeep and construction of public parks, ball fields, jogging paths, and nature preserves.
Community Services: Libraries, health departments, and animal shelters are often funded through property taxes.
Environmental Services: Property taxes pay for trash collection, street cleaning, and sewer and storm-water management.
Special Districts: Funds are allocated to libraries, fire districts, and solid waste districts.
Personal Property: In some jurisdictions, property taxes also include tangible personal property such as cars, boats, and industrial equipment."

About the same in some regards. If you stop paying the rent they kick you out. Same thing if you stop paying your property tax.

LOL, you guys are pikers... grin
Property taxes here avg around 12 g per year... some older assessments are less, newer ones are more, new large houses can be over 20 g. I know some very large houses on the water are 50,000....
Most of it goes to school taxes, we have the highest paid teachers and administration on the planet...highest paid police too..
This used to be paradise....

I'm on 1/4 acre in a 3 bedroom/1 bath ranch and just paid $3,100+ property tax. 49% of my town is tax exempt. (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) churches and schools kill us.
