And another coyote.
My son invited me out to his place to do some calling. First stand has a group or pair answer us from a long ways away, but less than 10min into the calling sequence we had a coyote running in. Not exactly sure what happened, but he veered at the last minute with no shot. I stopped the caller and went silent for a few minutes then went back with my favorite distress call and he poked his head up trying to circle downwind of us. I told my son and he whispered “unsafe” and for me to take him when I could. I’d already dropped the scanner and was on the rifle as backup and touched the trigger.
A nice 34# male.

Stand #2 produced a blank.
Stand #3.1 was met with Miranda Lambert being blasted by “mudders” as my son calls them so we relocated to the opposite side of the pecan orchard for stand #3.2. About 8 minutes in we got some riled up, but knew they weren’t coming due to the terrain. We marked their location on the map and decided we’d give them a try another night when the wind was in our favor.
A pretty good night in my opinion. I’m also testing some new bullets and think I’m gonna love them! They’re the Nosler Varmageddon’s 110gr! They’d dropped the hog with ease and we had to hunt for the entrance on this coyote with no exit. I’m used to walking up and seeing a massacre wondering how I’m gonna pose it for a pic with the 168gr CoreLokts, lol. It may be in my head, but I notice less recoil and they definitely seem quieter.
