Ok, so if I owned 40 hectares up there can I trap it or do the Beaver belong to whoever has that land as part of their RTL? I don't know all the in's and out's of regulated traplines.
There was a court case here not long ago.A landowner took a trappers traps that were set at a beaverhouse in the water on a creek going thru his land. The law was clear,if the trapper can acess by water from his line he owns the beaver(counted on his quota)
There is private land within the boundaries of some traplines close to towns,
A trapper owns the beaver if he can acess the pond, lake or river by a navigable waterway from his RTL
I have one trapline with some private land, any of the landowners I have met have offered if I wanted to trap on their land I could.
I told them if they ever have a problem I would take care of it in fur season but other than that I wont trap on private land.
One guy that moved onto a place became a good friend. He is a gunsmith and he had 3 large rotwieler dogs that mostly stayed on his property.I pulled my wolfsnare jackpot that was within wandering range of his dogs out of courtesy.
That was 3 years ago.His dogs got eaten by wolves and he didnt want to get anymore
Steve is a good guy and has fixed a couple guns for me.
I try to get along with everybody and go out of my way to let new people know who I am and what I do.I want to know if they have free roaming pets and I let them know if I am doing nuisance work nearby so they can watch their dogs until I am done.
I meet some of people from down south that have bought land up here to get away from the ratrace. They mostly just want to be left alone and do whatever they do.They like it here cause they like privacy.
I have made friends with all I have met so far.
