Life got busy and I haven't been on here for awhile. Looks like the same bunch of experienced names on the threads which is good to see! Been incredibly busy last couple of years for our fishing and trapping business which brings up a question. What are you wilderness guys running for snowmobiles now?

My old VK was getting miled out so I bought a new skandic with the 600 ACE last year. Nothing but trouble since. Walked twice now. Same problem others are having, fuel sock inside the tank. Almost impossible to fix on the trail. My son bought the exact same machine this year ( 2025 model) and 1300km later his did the same thing. Local mechanic says he's doing 3-4 every week so its a common issue. Not much left to choose from with Yamaha and Cat out of the business.

Otherwise this has been an exceptional season. Seeing more wolverine sign than Ive ever seen, and marten numbers are excellent as well. Got a pack of 14 wolves living around the cabin so targeting them heavy now. Hopefully I can thin them out a bit before the moose start dropping calves this spring.

It's odd, I read about the fuel sock problems on here, yet I've never heard of them locally from any of either the 600 or 900 ACE owners. Most of us run 87 octane gas, although my dad always runs supreme, but maybe even our 87 octane is different gas than you northern guys have? I've got about 6000 miles on my 900 ACE and know a couple guys with 3 times that on theirs without problems. Yet it is a commonly mentioned problem from the northern guys.

It's nice seeing you on here again Dave , that's quite bum deal on the new snowmobile ! Hopefully they can fix the problem once and for all for all of you folks !

I've still got my old Polaris 660 RMK which I hope to get to ride again soon when my Dr's will allow it ha ha !

Hi Dave.
I've had my 600 ace since 2017 havent had any problems yet except a dead battery over this past summer.I doubt I put the miles on it that you do though.
Maybe work in changing that part as a regular mtc item every year or two.

Boco you still catching so much fur you cant skin it all? wink The problem were having is that it seems like these new machines are plugging up the fuel filters about every 100-1500 km. In the last 10 day trip I put on 800 km so Im in the danger zone already and its a big job to get at the sock filter. From the stuff I've read the consensus seems to be theres something in the tank that is dissolving thats causing the problem. The filters are coal black when they plug up.

MT. How the heck you been ? Its funny as we get older I always thought life would slow down but mine hasn't ! 4 Grandkids close by and the business is more than I can handle at times!

Allan good to hear from you how you been ? I heard your wolf season got cut down there because you were catching to many grizzlies in wolf traps wink I'm getting a lot of clients out of Montana now especially since they put the wolverine on the endangered list. Those older sleds were hard to beat!

I have been dealing with the fuel sock also and have a couple techniques I have been using that seem to help at least temporarily between complete replacement.
Loosen the fuel cap
When you feel the machine loosing power from a plugged filter turn off the machine and tap the metal near the tank with the back of a hatchet or a frozen stick or even a chunk of 2x4....the vibration knocks the plastic particles out of the sock....this won't work if the machine is running.....this has worked very well for me .....
I have gotten pretty good at pulling the whole thing apart and cleaning the sock with brake cleaner and compressed air....take 2-3 hours and really makes me mad to have to do it but what else is there these days....
Hopefully this issue gets figured out....

I wish there was a list of parts and directions on SUV1's fix because I think it's the way I'm gonna go

Is this issue only on the skandic models? I haven’t had any issues on a 2016 or 2020 tundra. Am looking at getting a new expedition sport and don’t want to get a sled that will leave me stranded.

From what I've heard its happening in both the 600 and 900 ace engines. I know a few guys with older machines like you have that have had zero issues and some that have had it happen once in 10k. The newer 23 and on seem to be worse according to the mechanic I used. There are a few guys that are just throwing the sock filter away and relying on an inline filter but how that will effect the fuel pump long term remains to be seen.

Yukon, I've got two of the Skandic WT with the 600 ACE. '21 & '23 so far have had zero issues.
One machine has 4K on it and I'm thinking it might be a good idea to just replace the filter this summer while its warm !!

Mine is a 23 and no issues yet with 6000 miles on it, but I'm thinking it may not be bad idea to replace it this spring when I put it up, after reading about so many having problems. I may not be back in the true wilderness like some of y'all but I am alone most of the time and 20-25 miles from the truck is fairly normal, sometimes farther.

I had my fill of walking out when I owned an Arctic Cat, it is one of the reasons why I went back to skidoo.

Glad you haven't had the issue yet. Funny but the most reliable machine I ever owned was a bearcat 570. That thing was bulletproof!

The one outfitter I work for has a Bearcat 570 and it has been pretty reliable, only issue I ever remember in it is carbs one year when he left it all summer with old untreated gas in it. And have ran their fourwheelers for 25 years, been very happy with them. But I bought a Bearcat Z1, the big fourstroke, wide track, and it was constantly broke down from the time it was almost new (I bought it used with 300 miles on it from an older lady when she and her husband decided to get a divorce shortly after buying it).
