Mine is a 23 and no issues yet with 6000 miles on it, but I'm thinking it may not be bad idea to replace it this spring when I put it up, after reading about so many having problems. I may not be back in the true wilderness like some of y'all but I am alone most of the time and 20-25 miles from the truck is fairly normal, sometimes farther.
I had my fill of walking out when I owned an Arctic Cat, it is one of the reasons why I went back to skidoo. Glad you haven't had the issue yet. Funny but the most reliable machine I ever owned was a bearcat 570. That thing was bulletproof!

Well, now I’ve got a decision to make tonight. Install a new short block in my 2012 Tundra for $4000, or buy a new one priced out with all the accessories I want for about $17000……. Reverse doesn’t always work because of low compression, 100 & 110. The 100 side has a huge gouge in the cylinder from a pin that came out and is still in the crank case. 6500 miles. Right now I’m thinking I’ll just rebuild it, comes with a 1yr warranty and I just replaced all the skid bearings and rebuild the secondary 2 years ago. There goes my fur check + my winnings at the fur competition……..lol Cost of doing business.

I feel your pain on the parts. I have two Skidoo Expedition LE's, 4 sets of hifax sliders, a new s-plate, a few new shock, a new track, parts for the rear suspension, adds up quick.

Maintenance costs are all part of owning a snowmobile. I just put $3500 into mine and didn’t Bat an eye. Full set of Rock shocks, new track, all filters and lubes. Probably buy a new one in the summer of 2027

Meatbag, I’ll ask today. One dealer recommended replacing them every 6000 miles but some machines needed new ones after 2000. Think I’m going to just get the new short block, comes with a 1yr warranty. The sled drove awesome and the guy said he could dial up the idle and I could keep riding it, but I need that thing operational and don’t really have a spare and would be rolling the dice. Maybe I’ll ride the rebuilt Tundra for a couple more seasons then buy a new one and keep this one as a spare. I like that Skidoo still has the Tundras and Skandics with the pogo and nice, tippy narrow ski stance. There was a used Expy for $18000, was Malkos wolf trapping sled, he gets a new one every couple years. $18000 1100km with all his bells & whistles but those Expys are just too wide for me. I like the simplicity of the fan cooled but there’s still good engine options, all liquid cooled, turbo or not, 4 or 2 stroke band the weight wasn’t too bad. My choice would’ve been the 600 Ace with no turbo just because of the fuel mileage I hear about. With Malkos old Expy 900 Turbo a guy can cruze at 100mph or putt around the trails. I ain’t no touring trail rider, I only use this machine for one thing and it’s gotta be tough, mirrors are a definite no go!……lol

Is this issue only on the skandic models? I haven’t had any issues on a 2016 or 2020 tundra. Am looking at getting a new expedition sport and don’t want to get a sled that will leave me stranded. I have a 600 EFI Tundra. It won't start below -30 and it blew the computer. Having trouble getting my after market warranty to pay for it.

I hate those aftermarket warranties. Remember years ago, I think it was 5th Estate, did a show on them? Dirty pricks! When the BRP guy said he’ll check his computer to see if there’s a short block kit in stock in Canada I was a bit nervous. He said it looked like it was. If not, it would’ve probably ment I’d be buying a new machine.

I'll never buy another aftermarket warranty, they never cover anything. Heck for that matter I couldn't get BRP to cover anything on their warranty the one time I had something break under warranty. The day Stihl builds a snow machine…
