Kool pic, but it's pretty rare for the pack to get anywhere that close to a bunny!

I had a beagle colored and marked like the one on the right named Badger.

When I had, and ran, beagles, you could tell how close they were to the rabbit by their howling. When, and it was rare, they saw the rabbit, their howl went to a completely different level. It went from a trailing howl to a “yip yip yip”.

I had one like that also many years ago named Butch. I guess since the magazine is small they had to close the gap between the beagles and the bunny.

Almost looks like a walker dog

I miss my Sampson! He never hunted but boy did he have the nose and the mouth for it. He would smell a bunny in the yard that had been there the night before and that tail would start going and he would holler!!

Tri colored beagles look Alot like walker coonhounds.

That is a great cover this month, my copy is in the "reading room" now. My youngest boy said that looks like our beagle Koko when I showed him the cover picture.

As far as dogs that close to the rabbit, it all depends on your dog and the cover. I have seen it happen but it makes for a better painting than a hunting strategy for sure.

That's where my copy is too. I haven't cracked it open yet, just finishing up the February issue of F-F-G. Then there's the 460-page Grizzly Industrial Woodworking Tools and Machinery catalog that just came plus the current issues of Wood Magazine and The American Hunter on the stack above it.

I better dedicate more time to the "reading room."

I had a stack of outdoor magazines on the floor in there that paid the ultimate price after having 3 sons......there is now a shelf for the preservation of the archives.

I agree Lugnut, that magazine cover needs a few liberties taken to capture some of what it conveys, but it still feels like the hunt is on when you look at it.

It did have some kind of neurological disorder, tested negative for rabies though. The dog hates rabbits in his yard but didn’t pounce on that one. He must have thought it was acting funny too. lol
