There was a 16'x16' wooden deck here for over 10 years. Treated wood ain't what it used to be. It was rotting away (even after being treated/painted, twice.)

Tore the deck off the house and hauled away. Poured a 24'x24'x4" patio slab. Just completed a mini-deck with steps to put the double doors back in use.

I had 5 tandem loads of dirt hauled in. Spread it with a box blade and the New Holland. Paid a guy to build form, and smooth the concrete (I calculated the yards needed and scheduled delivery.) All this about a month or so ago.

I started the small deck and stairs about 10 days ago. Finished today. Yeah...I work slow. My 1st time cutting stringers....$54 for two 2x12x8's. Didn't won't to re-buy those. Success!

I built it all over-sturdy. Hurricanes have me "storm-shy."

The wife's happy with my build idea and work. She was already setting stuff on it b4 I could get thru with it...smh!

Anyway...glad that's done. Gotta trap a few nuisance beavs next few weeks.

It looks good to me Swamp. I might have left the bottom of the rail up a little more. It makes it easier to get the snow off the side.

Hopefully that won't be an issue here....again...lol!

Plus, plans are to build a roof over half the patio's length..complete with guttering.

My pellet grill, smoker, & fish cookers, along with the entire mini-deck and steps will be under the roof.

Nice job Swamp
I would take a belt sander over the handrails and round the corners at the bottom end of the handrails
I would also put new threshold seals in the doors
I only added that recommendation because of rain splash because of the deck not having a small step up to the door

Looks good

Great looking work there Swamp. Paint is your worst enemy on any flat surface wood, rots it out 3 times faster then stain.

I just know i won't be building anything out of wood again, they can call it whatever they want. May as well build a porch out of 2x4 studs, probably last longer.

I sure learned that the expensive way.

This build will get only stain, plus it'll be under a roof too....soon.
