A) What is everyone's favorite animal to trap?

B) Do you specialize in a certain animal or two or trap a little of everything?

As a brand new trapper I don't have a clue what I enjoy most but I can see how focusing on just K9s for the time being might help the learning curve vs trying to trap K9s, cats, coons and river swimmers.

Beaver. Like the way they smell, feel,...and taste when cooked.

Beaver is pretty fun and easy, but I trap a bit of everything. Even saw cat tracks this winter and made some pens, but they didn’t come back. Wolf is what I really like, but it’s best doing it alone. I’ve told bud to wait 15min, I’m just going to check a spot in there, then I come back out 2 hours later and say I need more gear from the shack…lol
A better question might be what trapping do you like the least.
I guess if I was strictly coon or ermine trapping, that’d be my least liked trapping, but I’m usually planting for other stuff too.

My favorite animals to trap have long been turtles. Turtles were definitely the most profitable animals I trapped before Ohio stupidly banned most turtles from sale. I like catching pretty much everything and have since I was 2 years old, when I started catching worms and pill bugs.

We trap a little of everything in our area but I really enjoy and get most excited trapping coyotes. Was just talking with my 14 year old yesterday when checking his line with him. Sure catching coon and other nest creditors is fun but I just don't get excited like I do checking the yote sets. It's more of I can't wait to get within sight of the next sets that are coyote sets. Got to go over and check these coon sets along the way to the next coyote set but the coon sets just don't get me excited like the coyotes. Maybe because they are full more often. I do prefer skinning coon over coyote

MInk & coyotes.

When I learned to trap mink, mink were all I trapped. I did the same with coyote. I’ve always been a believer in depth of focus be it trapping, welding, or any other activity where the degree of my effort directly equates to the degree of my success!

I prefer trapping nutria. This animal is the dumbest furbearer in the world, thus a perfect match for my mental capacity and physical abilities.
I have lucked into catching enough coyotes to deceive people into thinking that I know what I'm doing.
I was showing someone the entire gamut of how to catch coyotes over several days until they felt confident enough to go out on their one.
I did tell them that the biggest key to success with coyotes is patience.
It wasn't more than a week gone by when I got a call that they caught one. I congratulated them, they said that it was probably just luck.
I laughed, then explained that coyote trapping is all luck, and mostly bad.

Wolves. Marten are fun also and I like trapping beaver and otter, and coyotes can be fun. Wolves can be highly frustrating but nothing beats the thrill of seeing a wolf standing in your trap.

I like trapping anything but catching a Cougar trips my trigger. When we could keep them I worked at it, closed the quota a couple times! Caught them all in a #2 size trap.

Skunks and coyotes but cats are moving up the line fast! Honestly I like trapping most anything.
