ATV isn’t running well. Starts fine, idles fine, drives fine til it warms up, then gets choppy and dies when starting out or shifting up. If I rev it up in neutral and pop into gear it’s fine until I stop again. So far have drained gas and refilled with premium, added gum out carb cleaner, replaced air filter, adjusted idle up and down. Ordered new plug but won’t have that for a couple days. Considering carburetor but trying simpler things first.
Any opinions or suggestions?

I rebuilt my carb and added a vice grip on my choke to get richer fuel… had the same problem

Sounds like the choke flap may be sticking.

I did remove the carb but only cleaned,,,,no new parts

It had been running for 10 years after sitting 3…….

X2 ethynol is very hard on small jets and passages

Has it been sitting for a while? When was the last time you ran it? Gas doesnt last long anymore, gums up carbs.

Crazy as it sounds, spark plug may fix it.

My woodsplitter has a little Honda motor that was doing the same thing. Spark plug did the trick

Thanks for the suggestions, will dig into it more. I’m curious about the choke.
Don’t use it that much, plowing snow and a few small food plots. Mostly running low gears, short runs. Ran it up and down the road today at 30 mph to give it some exercise, ran fine until I stopped and tried to start going again.
Only have ever used premium (no ethanol) gas in it because it does sometimes sit for a while. Fresh gas in it today didn’t help.
I wanted to add seafoam but store only had “gum out” brand, planning to try seafoam when I get a chance to get some.
Hoping to avoid digging into carb because have never done that sort of work. But may be time to learn.

Try the spark plug. If it were mine I would clean the carb and adjust the valves. If u want the choke cable to stay out just turn the plastic round piece under where he has the vice grips. Its rubber over a nut that tightens up around the cable. But if you have to run it with the choke on there is a carb issue.

My 04 is flawless with a ton of miles but always use Stabil in the gas

Does it backfire when you accelerate? If so, voltage regulator / rectifier is a likely culprit. I’ve replaced four of them on various quads.

I cut a slit in the correct length of copper tubing and hung it next to my choke on a long stainless wire so I didn't need to carry vice grips. Pull out the choke, slide the the copper onto / under it, let go.

In the last few years everything I have that gets gummed up from the gas starts and runs like crap but once it gets going just spraying wd40 into like you would starter fluid gets everything clean and going again at the beginning of the season.

Just a little here, let it burn, a little more, let it burn, sometimes it can take ten or fifteen minutes but it will get going.

Easiest thing I have found to do and I haven't had it not work yet. I'd try that.

My Kawasaki acted like that, and the battery was bad.

Also check oil level. Over filling oil can cause problems like that. I would check air box and see if it is getting oil pumped into it.
