I hate Polaris xlt carbureted sleds I'm selling both of mine I hate them so much they wont start when its under 30 they're a pain in the rear to work on and a waste of time and money I'm gonna buy a second 1990s Indy 500 fuel injected cause at least they're reliable. I'm also this close from quitting with my old skidoo Olympics - they are so old and brittle they never run right I'm done with crappy old carb sleds

thats the thing i dont have my license yet but them not starting or breaking in the yard makes me mad and i can walk less than 100 feet home

My polaris are also cold blooded, a Lil snort of ether goes a long ways.

New gas? Many problems I see with small engines are fuel related, fill with new gas, check plugs because the old stuff probably fouled them. If it still doesn't want to run you may have to reevaluate the carb cleaning.

Yep, fuel injection is the way to go. It cuts down fixing by 90%.

Sadly people will trailer their snowmobiles out here from the city and do just that. Next year we get landowners calling our club because they're shutting down the trail s on their land. The snowmobile trails out here run for hundreds of miles. Snowmobile club volunteers get permission, make the trails, put up tons of signage and build hundreds of bridges.
Stay on the marked trails please!!

I’ve had 4 Polaris sleds since 98 or so, plus a vintage 79 jag long track. I’ve never had starting issues.
Spark, plus fuel, bingo they run.

How much compression is in each cylinder? If you are under 125 PSI you are worn, under 100 PSI worn out. I have 7 sleds, temperature doesn’t matter, compression, spark, timing, equals a start.

I ride Chautauqua county some Turtledale and a few of goons ruin it for the rest, most folks are very grateful to the clubs and landowners. I know I am.

Anyone with a dose of common sense should have known not to buy a triple! Even the distance racers here in Alaska use twins. XLTs are not trapping or travelling type sleds.

Sleds have to be maintained. Treat it like crap, don’t get mad when it lets you down. Bought an old machine? Go through the whole thing in summer. Trappers need a machine to operate, I treat mine like gold. I put it through heck & back, but I look after it.

There ain’t nothing light about the Xtra Light Triple. I had a 94 & 93…..it’s a triple. There’s 3 carbs, are your boots cracked to beat heck? Whats it jetted for? What fuel are you running in warm weather if it’s jetted for -15? Fuel line condition? Pump? Are your throttles timed? How about the electric system! Strong spark? Stator can cause hard warm starts.
The beauty part about simple old machines is they’re simple to maintain and repair. Plugs? You shouldn’t have to change plugs all the time either.

Buy a more complicated machine to make life easier…….lol.

I thought they all broke down. Same for jet skis.

All depends on the mechanic. I have run 1100 miles in 5 days in Maine just adding fuel, oil, food, and beer.
