Wife tells me she wants to go to the SE and see the ocean again. Walk on the beach and in the surf.

I said and get some good seafood.

what and where is good at what time of the year?

thinking NC, SC or GA I plan to drive she wants to hit a couple places in TN on the way

where are good places to get seafood , markets and cook ourselves or good restaurants , trailers , I am not opposed to a trailer behind a shack in the middle of coastal SC in 2013 we found Flowers seafood , a little cinder block building in about the middle of Edisto Island SC , bought some stuff and they had a cook trailer out back , not a lot in season right then but the soft shell crab was great at the cook trailer.

off the beaten path is good , we are not real touristy

I like King Neptunes on Wrightsville Beach (Wilmington) NC. They also have a once a month gunshow that was full of vendors who didn't want to take anything back home. It was all priced to sell.
I have no been everywhere but I've been enough places to know what I like.

Wife and I loved Stingrays on Tybee Island. It was more seafood than we could even eat for $40, relaxed atmosphere.

Oh man, I wouldn't say I am an expert on the subject matter but I am at least well qualified grin

I don't think Outer Banks seafood can be matched. I don't know if I'm biased, or if that's what I have been eating the past 20+ years so I'm accustomed to it, idk

What I do know is that 9.9 times out of 10 I am let down when eating seafood other places

My favorite is taking the ferry to Ocracoke and eating at Howards Pub or The Flying Melon

There are also some crowd pleasers that don't require a ferry ride. Tale of the whale in Nags Head, Goombays in Kill Devil Hills, OBX Boil Company in Corolla, etc etc. Too many good ones to list.

I'm no help in GA but have covered a good portion of NC and SC. Out of those two states I'd pick OBX every time. Have a good trip!

Gotta live up to the nickname...

So many to select from. Just don’t eat king crab legs and call it local seafood.

she booked us a room on Tybee , so that should be possible

Nashville-ish somewhere just outside where hotels get less expensive for a night on the way down , then Tybee for 2 nights then moving up to Edisto then head home.

while I am asking what would they be catching in the tidal creeks around Edisto in April?
thinking about maybe a charter or at least a little fishing pier , they had one last time we were there.

Might be a little north for your travels but a stroll through the eastern shore of Maryland can satisfy both the beach crave and provide plenty of fresh seafood. Crabs both hard and soft, clams, oysters, scallops, lots of fish all fresh at many local joints.

Take a roll of twine, a long handled dip net, and some chicken parts. I put out several hand lines when I go. I can catch a meal worth of blue crab every evening

like mason twine , bank line , tared bank line?
what time of year , I looked at a folding crab trap online

last time we were down there I talked to a guy at the fishing dock , that was first week of Nov 2013 he said he had crab traps and explained how he would wade them out but then proceeded to tell me it was too cold to wade right now , I told him my kids had been swimming in the ocean all day , if it wasn't my last night there I would walk them out myself if he wanted to get some crab.
cause water didn't get that warm in WI in July.
water was 80 and the air temp 65 but bright sun , we were coming from 35 and rain , it was like heaven , empty beaches , locals bundled up like it was twenty below and we are swimming and fishing in the surf thinking this is the best weather ever warm but not sweaty.

I rented a canoe down there in 2013 , I am still thinking maybe put my canoe on the roof of the mini van and bring it , I will see how things are going as we get closer to April.

I can’t advise you on the entire southeast….. only the best state…..

Go Calabash, NC….. eat anywhere….and then go to Wanchese, NC and eat at Oneills Sea Harvest for lunch and Basnight’s Lone Cedar Cafe for dinner….. Sam and Omies for breakfast…. Thank me later.

I will 2nd the O'Neals Sea Harvest in Wanchese, NC for lunch. It is a combination seafood market and restaurant. Nothing fancy but I have never had a bad meal there.
