You logically pay the debt with the gold.

Maybe.

Could always default on the debt and keep the gold.

Not so much to a government entity but gold is a hidden asset.

We are not on a gold standard, a dollar is worth a dollar because it is valued and we say so. Money in a mattress is not making you money.

I don't have an opinion on this but I do have a question... A dollar is worth a dollar because it's an agreed value. Gold is a precious metal but isn't it valuable also because it's agreed that it is? The Bible says in the end times a loaf of bread will buy a bag of gold. So at some point, bread will be more valuable than gold because it is needed more. So I guess my question is why is it necessary to back paper money with gold anymore? Everything is agreed value.. until it isn't.

you can't print more gold there is only so much. If your currency is Backed up with a hard assets it has value when it's backed up with it worth something because we say so and can be printed tell it's worth nothing. See a difference?

1oz gold used to be a $20 face value now its 3k in value. guess what is still the same value it just takes 3 k now to buy what $20 used to. The dollars are worth less and that's why holding cash in a low to no interest savings account or tucked away at home and not invested is not smart because it looses value each year. You need your money working making money at least at the rate of inflation.

Your bread reasoning is why I think ammo is more valuable than gold.

More gold is being discovered daily,,,,,the supply is increasing

Yesterday morning on Bloomberg they were discussing trumps gold comments

I didn’t catch it all,,,,but what I heard was,,,,

The gold that the US holds is not valued at current prices,,,

If it was valued at current values, the debt picture would be very different

Wish I was able too get a replay on that particular segment but haven’t found it

Gold only has value because it's shiny and makes nice jewelry and works well as electrical contacts. It has no inherent value, it's only valuable because we humans like it. A loaf of bread has more inherent value than a shiny rock.

I get the point... sort of. However, like gold bitcoin can't be printed and has a limited supply. Yet I wouldn't equate the two.

No, the Bible doesn't say that. That is a line out of an old Larry Norman song.

Gold is one of the rarest elements on the planet.
The earths crust is made up of only .oo5 parts per million.

Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

So if removing elements from the ground and redistributing them in other places,,,,, is the globe going to spin out of orbit.?

Think about it,,,,,, how could it not?

When the SHTF gold is worthless, try trading gold for a hind quarter of deer meat and you'll get laughed at
I'd trade a whole deer for a box of 22 ammo though
Gold won't be able to feed you or keep you warm or safe when the grind goes down

94.6% of all figures are made up.

I have nothing clever to put here.
