Anyone who thinks farmers are on welfare should just...
Buy land
Buy tractor
Buy disc, planter, applicator
Buy fuel, fertilizer, seed, herbicide, insecticide
Buy hail insurance
Buy combine
Buy truck
Report to the FSA how many acres of which crop you intend to plant so the Gubmint can adjust crop prices accordingly.
Prove to yourself how great the farmer welfare really is.

Life ain't supposed to be easy.

Poor and hardscrabble farmers? They don't exist around here.

If interest rates were to ever go back to 80's levels, then see how many farmers are poor.

Lots of giveaways from the Government out there just start a Nonprofit business then pay yourself well to manage it. Trucks roll up full of commodities of all kinds all for free. Not just the old bricks of cheese everyone jokes about but about everything that’s subsidized by the Government like meats, honey, soybean oils or grain related to some degree. So the more students you’re already getting paid to look after the higher dollar value of supplies you are allowed to receive.

The reservations have distribution centers to hand out commodities at, some of the “food” is not edible or healthy it’s so salted and starchy unless you’re accustomed to it. I noticed at the jail that Native inmates salt and pepper everything to the point the pepper blackens the food, seen a young man heavily salt and pepper a sausage links like that’s normal.

Some of the products are good but some items are not edible like the canned meat that’s so salty my cats wouldn’t eat that.

Was born in a Big City Will die in the Country OK with that!

Cannot have a large and growing population without cheap food. If we want to populate our country we need a cheap food supply. I understand some do not want more people but our country is based on growing population and inhabiting the land.

Dont have any poor farmers here New trucks ,tractors and all equipment is as new Sheds that you could put your house inside ,new homes and cars . Many younger farmers have collector cars and one I know has a temperature and humidity controlled building to store his collectors in . Just check your mailbox and work 2-3 months a year ,Spend your winters in warmer climates and come home when winter is over. Not much sympathy from me . Sorry

Sounds like government welfare for never-ending growth, neither of which is sustainable. Both government welfare and never-ending growth will eventually collapse, probably catastrophically.

When average Joe spends outside his means he's ridiculed. When farmer Joe does it, it's all good.

There are a lot of programs out there that are not much more than Welfare for farmers. Some take advantage, some don’t. Some just outright abuse it.

If you have never benefited financially from

CRP
Woodland restoration
Seasonal burning of warm season
Building of ponds lakes
Etc

There were farmers locally worth millions that took the PPE money into the 6-digit range that weren’t affected by Covid in the least but had their hand out none the less. It was disgustingly obvious where the money went as they all got new trucks, UTV and shops built.

I have land, tractor and implements, skid steer, etc. I don’t farm as there is not enough money to be made. I do cut and sell firewood in my spare time. My main job has always been in a factory as that is where I could provide for my family.

The harvest was over. The farmer goes into the bank to settle up. He tells his banker, well I have bad news and I have good news. Which would you like first. The banker said lets just have the bad news first and get it out of the way. Farmer says well you know that 40 acres I bought last year and you loaned me the money, Yes. Well I can't make a payment on it. Next do you remember the tractor that burnt and I had to borrow the money to replace it from you, Yes. Well I can't make a payment on it. Do you remember the loan I got to send my daughter to college, Yes. Well I can make a payment. The banker says Oh My. The farmer says and that ain't all, but the banker says he can't take anymore bad news right now. Please tell me some good news. The farmer told him we like the way you do business and next year we've decided to give you all of our business !

I think the reporters are mis-representing Federal Workers when they say only 6% go to the office. That might be in Washington DC - but around here all the Corps, NRCS, USFS, Air Traffic Controllers, Fed NWR’s, etc have been working on site - a lot of them even through Covid.

Considering the sheer number of government workers, those particular employees may be the 6%

I didn’t watch the video, but one problem is that food stamps come from the USDA budget, and if people look at the split they think the farmers are taking too large of proportion of that budget, augment has been made that food stamps should come from health and human services but nobody wants to move the debt.

The biggest lobby group for Food stamps is the IGA or independent grocer's Assn of America. A high percentage of their revenues come from the SNAP program

Theres obviously a lot of fed jobs that you have to actually have to be there to do. Kinda hard to to do ATC from home I would imagine. But I would imagine there are a lot of do nothing jobs out there.
