I’m finding a lot of hard ground where I trap and can’t get a super stake in deep enough. I’m trapping coyotes and bobcats mostly.Whats y’all’s set up on cable, ferrules, cable clamps, etc.? Thanks

Talk to flipper 56 about the use of drags. I haven’t tried them in earnest. I don’t know why I’m so afraid but my ground is rocky too in the field. I’ve used cable extensions for DP coon traps but nothing else. I can’t see why they wouldn’t work for coyotes too

If it's cold you can set by icing in your stake in some situations.

7x7 3/32" cable will work and it's cheap. Just cut it to length, and make a loop on each end useing a double ferrule. You can hammer the ferrule if you don't have a swager, works just fine. I use a J-hook in the end swivels' second hole to attach to the loop on the cable. You can loop it through the swivel as well. Make the loop big enough on the anchor end to pass the cable back through around your tree.

Ideally, 7x19 1/8" cable is the best cable choice due to it being more limp and less prone to kinking, but it'll cost more initially.

That is an AK thing and isn't something that works well here, especially in WV.

I have nothing clever to put here.

Good point. Was equating hard ground with frozen ground in my head. Yeah won't work too far south.

All of mine are 1/8” 7x7. Just loops with double ferrules on each end. Generally hold up well to at least a few catches.

Ever have any breaks or trap losses? I’d sure hate to lose a k9 extreme jr lol I’m just worried that the ferrule would fail.

I’ve had a lot of coyotes chew through 3/32 snares but never lost one yet lol I was thinking about going 1/8

Get you a 3/4” or 1” drill bit and drill a pilot hole then drive your earth anchor down.

Never heard of them chewing on extension cables. They considerate on the trap on their foot. I suppose it could happen but it would be awfully rare occurrence. Snares are different altogether, they definitely chew at them.

I have ran 1/8” 7x7 50 plus feet in setting for wolves, as extensions. None of my catches worked the cable much.

Drags aren’t a reasonable option, for me. Our storms and tides obliterate sign pretty quickly.

Do you use double ferrules on that 1/8 cable or cable clamp ?

Double ferrules. Look up tree locks, they are handy.
