If you show up with some blood splatter on your cloths it will help their perspective.

Grand jury duty is a little different. Our job is to listen to the evidence and decide whether charges should be brought. There were two grand jury pools of seven selected. One will convene daily for the next 30 days and look at serious criminal cases. The second jury pool only looks at cases where the victims are minors. It does not convene daily but I have to call every night to see if I need to come in. I’m in the second pool. With any luck I’ll only have 4-5 days of duty this month and can continue trapping.

I have been seated on juries twice and disqualified both times for unspecified reason.

You mean it was something that you put in your questionnaire that they didn't like?

In my case I even told the judge I was a trapper and he asked what kinds of animals I trapped. I told him and he replied "Interesting".

About 10 years ago I got a letter for jury duty saying to keep checking in to see if I needed to go to the courthouse. Checked several times and nothing. Friday came and website said report on Monday. Had a family vacation arranged for months for the same time period. Went on vacation. Everyone said there would be a warrant for me. Heard nothing. 5 years later another letter to report. That time I went. Got sent home after sitting there all morning. Nothing was ever said about not showing up the first time.

It's jury duty. Not like getting called to defend the country from invasion or something.

Tell the judge if the police arrested the person, they have to be guilty!

When being interviewed for a jury if you tell them, you will use my rights as a Jury nullification. As a juror you can vote for or against a law on the books and your vote is golden. You don't have to vote like the law is written you are God when it comes to guilty or not guilty. Attorneys and judges don't want people that don't use the law in their judgement of the case.

Jury nullification is a jury's rejection of the law or evidence to deliver a verdict based on its own sense of justice.

The judge gets really twisted up though when he doesn't have enough people to set a jury

I've been called for jury duty several times, only seated once. Bull droppings case was brought by an ambulance chaser against little old lady (rather her insurance company). I was instrumental in getting case blown out of the water. Not something I'd look forward to, but to get just rulings, somebody with a head on their shoulders has to participate. Biggest downside is they impose upon your time........and you do it for free. The nominal compensation they offer is insult to intelligence.

In BP's case, however this is Grand Jury. I have serious concerns about grand juries. The point of them......the power they have and worse.......the sway prosecutors have over them. Serious concerns.

No judge for grand jury. It's not a trial. Had 2 weeks of GJ last month. Here in Alaska 14 are jury members and 14 are alternates. I was a member. You are offered the ability to back out for a variety of reasons.
Ony meet Tues.- Thursday. here. I got in trouble. Finished a case at noon. Break for lunch. Victim testified and he was from Nebr. my home state. On the way out I spoke to him. A trooper had also testified. I had heard of this guy and I spoke with him. Friendly and interesting guy. After lunch I got called down to court with DA and judge. Apparently the state is very sensitive about defense calling the GJ process tainted a d showing familiarity with witnesses could do that. Was kinda scary when I walked into the court. Thought I was going to be arrested.
The next week I called in and got put on the alternate list.

Got notified twice in my life. Twice they dismissed me. Just have to know how much time you have to waste and how much it will cost you to serve. Back in those days I was making a large part of my living on the road trapping in different states. I wrote a letter of explanation and that was that.

It would be interesting to serve on JD but not at that time.

I've been called for jury duty several times but am always eliminated when I inform them of my career in law enforcement.

That was trial jury, right? Grand Jury if for felony charging. Prosecutor office runs GJ. They are happy to have LEO.

I believe that the notion of a grand jury was enacted in our judicial system is to make sure charges brought are done so fairly. In Europe where most of our ancestors came from the power to try folks was too often abused.
