Probably my favorite game bird to hunt, such cool colors and interesting birds. I’ve photographed them before but never been able to get great shots of them. Found a situation where several coveys were feeding in a field with deep snow which makes for interesting photos. Officially called Gray Partridge this has been a banner year for them with numbers higher than I’ve ever seen in my lifetime.

Tray We have more of them here then I have seen in 20 years. I would guess that means a crash is coming. Nice pictures.

If they could not survive in areas with little cover, they would not be here. I jumped 3 bunches in canola stubble in a less then a quarter mile this fall. At least a dozen in each bunch.

Tray those are beautiful pictures. We also have a lot of them in the last few years more than I have seen in many moons.

Sporty birds and make decent table fare.
They thrive when its dry and in many areas it's been dry these past few years

We had a population in NW Iowa back in the 70s. I remember a Rooster pheasant being way easier to hit !

I assume the pictures weren't taken locally. We used to get a few every year hunting pheasants until the winter of 96-97. I haven't seen one since. Great pictures. I’m back home in MT right now, have been seeing a few birds back there but not many. They really do better in the small grain country, mix in some plum and chokecherry crick bottoms and they are really happy.

Best tasting game bird there is in my opinion. Problem is I haven’t shot one in nearly two decades here in east central SD. Had lots of them in my youth, but been very scarce the last 20 years or so. I see a couple coveys each year but will not harvest any until they hopefully make a comeback. My cousin and I have been tossing around the idea of trying to hatch some and release to see if it will help to bolster the local population. I’ve spent money on far dumber things I guess…lol

You will see them once in a great while here in southeast Minnesota. Don’t really know what is considered good habitat for them.

Jonathon Weber would be proud of you for these great pictures of these Huns !
The last couple of weeks we've had a few coveys around the house , when I tried for a picture they would fly away you can only do so much with a cell phone .
You're friend along the snare line . Allan

I won't hunt them in the hopes they can recover and prosper once again with larger numbers. I really like to see them around the last few years.
