This, but I keep the collars also.

Folks really appreciate the nicely trimmed fillets.

The silvers runs are probably worse than the King runs in Cook Inlet, fortunately we are still in denial.

Man If I saw a filet with no collar and no belly I'd be like "well we all mess up sometimes."

Also I know what's for dinner. Got a slice of King still in the freezer. The king run isn't huge here but I get lucky some years.

Question for you guys. What species of salmon is usually used for making salmon oil?

Never too old to learn

Dont know about alaska but in oregon, wsshington and Californication the sea lions gather at the mouth of rivers and eat most of the fish before they can even get to the river. Get rid of the seals and sea lions and you'll have a lot more fish. But they are "cute" little critters so they are on the protected species list.

Either Chum or Pink I'd imagine.

It's almost like you can't rototill the bottom of the ocean year round and still maintain a healthy ecosystem. Areas closed to bottom Trawl to protect habitat and Benthic Fish are "midwater" trawled by boats that drag the bottom up to 100% of the time. Crooked.

If you have to eat fish, there is nothing better than dried King salmon bellies !

I eat salmon because it's plentiful, I eat lingcod or halibut if I want to enjoy eating fish. I don't dislike salmon, I'm just tired of it

I give away most of the Salmon I catch. Two days of limiting is a year supply at my rate of consumption.

I just dipnet until the pile looks bigger than what I want to fillet. I always get it all done, even though sometimes I wish I'd quit fishing a bit sooner
