Nunyacreek OP trapper N Joined: Aug 2020 Posts: 85 MT	I know Montana does, my understanding is that Idaho, Wyoming and Alaska do not. Please add to this information or correct me if I’m wrong. Thank you!

Super Wide trapper S Joined: Jan 2014 Posts: 183 Alaska	Correction. Alaska DOES seal Marten, but it's not a locking tag and it's not in every unit up here. So yes and no. We catch a ton of them. It's just a colored plastic string with the year written on it. They change the color of the string each year. You just run the string through an eye hole with about 20 of them on one string or however many you caught. Our state is so big, some areas they do not care how many anyone catches. There are more animals than Bruce can catch. Other areas, you get every one of them sealed every year. These areas they keep a good eye on the marten, and have stats for many years of collecting data. They change our yearly limits if they need to. My Super Wide will pull your broken down 4 stroke, up a hill backwards, with you on it!

Nunyacreek OP trapper N Joined: Aug 2020 Posts: 85 MT	I was wondering because MT didn’t for a few years and instead required online reporting closer to the time of harvest (for Covid). I asked a biologist this weekend and they reported that one idea behind locking tags is that ensures all marten are harvest are reported. There was concern that if folks didn’t need a tag they might not report, and that could be detrimental in the long term because it might be used as evidence of marten decline when in fact it might not be true. I’m all for agencies having all the data they need to support trapping so I was pleased at the response.

Well in SE Alaska its always a bright orange cord...just says" AK marten "on it and I've never seen a year on it. Nor have we had any limit on them.

We do not have a limit either. My Super Wide will pull your broken down 4 stroke, up a hill backwards, with you on it!
