Does anybody have one they would part with. I'm trying to put my 97 year old father in laws 1953 back to original.

Go over to the Marlin owners site, lots of discussions about the bullseye....there are some available at a price... Are you sure the 53 models had the bullseye?,

On mine, I did what a lot of people did at the time and put a sling stud there, apparently this was wrong and now we're called Bubbas, for "ruining" a classic, lol
Those guns were built to a price point and sold cheap, as working, hunting guns, the bullseye was a merchandising ploy to differentiate Marlins from Winchesters when on the rack, nothing more.

I never "fixed" mine and I'm ok with that....I also removed the white spacers and the crummy Marsheild finish and put a nice oil finish on it, no it's not original, it's mine and I'm not a collector and like it just the way I made it, lol

You do what you want to grandpas gun, it's yours, I wish you the best. Just giving you an alternate opinion...

Thanks for the info gcs. It's a 336rc and has a sling stud in where the bullseye should be. Pretty sure it had one since that's right where the stud is. I can by one online but the want a ridiculous amount for shipping for something that could be put in an envelope with a stamp. I'm not cheap it's just the principle.

They say it was just a trademark, but I wonder if the hole was a way it was held for spray finishing the stock.

The one I have isn't a waffle top. I think 1952 was the last year. As close as I can tell it's a 1953.

I also put a sling on all of mine, but according to 23 and Me I am close to 4% neandertal anyway. Mike

I picked up a nice marlin golden 39 A Mountie 22
Mine was missing the famous bullseye, it appears to have just fallen out
I tried making one , but it just didn’t look like the original..
I ended up buying a modern reproduction bulls eye
The part was expensive at $ 12.00 , but the shipping was a rip off at another $ 12.00
It comes longer than needed , so you can apoxy it in place then carefully file it down for a custom fit
But when complete it looks just like the original ,
Bob

Not to change the subject but it's amazing how many people have Neandertal DNA. A lot of it comes from German ancestry. Mike
