I saw some ermine tracks while working my coyote snares this week. Ermine season lasts for one more week so I was thinking of dropping a couple box traps today after work. All I have to set them with is 110s so I'm wondering if I should make the box longer and have a 110 at each end and bait in the middle, set a single 110 in a box with two openings and have the bait on the trigger in the middle, or make a single entrance box with the trigger at the entrance and bait at the back. Thoughts?

I caught quite a few in martin boxes on leaning poles. Had to put pans on my 120's to keep the little rascals from eating the bait without getting caught. Trap was just on one end on the downward side of the leaning pole.

I would run pans or the trigger wire in a T shape set with the dog down. So the T is upside down. I would have the bend about 1 inch up hoping the weasel would jump it and push off it. The inch would include the metal bracket height. I would have a trap in both ends and not have bait on the trigger in a box.

I get them in marten sets. They're pretty good at getting through a conibear, but #0 and #1 footholds seem to catch most of them, I have less stolen bait when I put a foothold on a pole than when I put a #120 in a box

You can use 110 on pole set.

I select a small pole to prevent coon and fisher from climbing.

I use a piece of deck board which is nailed to the pole. I use a small piece of 1/4 in mesh which I fold around a small piece of beaver or muskrat. A leave a piece of bait sticking out of the mesh and insert it to the 110 trigger.

I cover the trap with couple spruce branches to shield the trap and to keep the birds away. You may end up catching a red squirrel, but whatever.

I don`t normally target weasel but will do the occasional set if I see signs. It has worked for me.

Good luck!

I'd use a foothold if I had them but I don't so I gotta make do. Might add some to my armory before next year's season though. I'll do my prep before the season starts.

Sounds good. Will probably do that.

I haven't had a chance to try any pole sets. Might be a good time for me to start.
