I found a grub that looks like this in a dead oak tree I cut down the wood was solid but it does make my skin crawl a little bit, read where they don’t hurt living trees, but it does make a guy think.

Yup looks the same, extension says they only burrow into dead trees, that’s what I’m going by.

Those grubs probably would make decent fishing bait.

They are great fish bait. Anytime I see a log down where I'm fishing I will look for them.

I've found them often at work and tried to feed them to fish off customers docks but never had a fish actually take one, sunfish pick a bit but bass ignore them.

Need to takes a stick and push its head though until it comes out of it hindparts. All the goodies are on the inside. Catalpa worms don't get bit either until you run them inside out. Once you do, there isn't any bait which gets bit better than that.

I plant a lot of acorns. It's suprising how many acorns I have to toss b/c they have a white grub inside the acorn.

Found half of a coffee can of those in a box elder one time when I was a kid. Catfish sure liked them.
