Those are the senneker shock lock…been using them for two years now and they are the best lock I’ve ever used. Only two places I know that have them are Schmitt and from Marty directly.

My two cents

I’ve used the rams for many, many years and caught thousands of coyotes with them. I’ve had chew outs on my rams but I can count them all on 1 hand. Rams are the ultimate snare for a quick dispatch. They are a pain carrying big numbers around but I can usually carry them in the truck to set them out at the beginning of the season. So it’s not a big deal. On the skidoo I can usually hall 3 dozen at a time when time when I’m setting. I can set rams in the open ,brush or big timber with no problems. Mostly trap around crop land and big bush so not a lot of pastures. Have very few problems with knockdowns. If a moose or deer happen to walk by the snare moves out of the way and snaps back into place after they clear. If one happens to get caught the breakaway works great. I’ve hung rams upside down, between grain bins, farm machinery and all kinds of strange places. You have to be careful setting them because they can be dangerous… but like anything else you learn to set them with no problems. Do I get refusals ? Absolutely but don’t worry much because another coyote will come through and get caught. Anybody that hasn’t had refusals hasn’t trapped much. I can say I have spots where I’ve set for 20 years plus and have caught at least 50 coyotes and am still setting in that same spot.

Senneker snares I have used quite a bit on a buddies line. I’ve built 100s of them for people. They are a very good set up providing they are set properly. I’ve seen a lot of good with them, some bad and a few ugly. People can post pictures of laid out coyotes with them and that’s when they work great. I know (hope) people don’t post the not so go pictures on any website because I’ve seen way to many. Anybody that’s trapped long enough knows what I’m talking about. I’ll leave it at that.

Where I trap at home we can only use rams. If I had a choice I would choose rams but it would be nice to have a few sennekers in my pocket when I’m out to set in certain spots.

Like anything else use what works best for you.

Turd that’s a nice setup and some great pictures. That’s the kind of pictures I like to see. Most of my coyotes look like a twisted up mess because they are mostly all frozen

Alan do you know the dates for Livingston this year?

Not yet Les but when I hear something you'll be the first to know .

The Wyoming Trappers convention is the first weekend in June at Basin Wyo if you're interested in another trip to the states .

As for snare locks the death blow then wedge locks are very popular the bottom line is it's a Ford, Chevy or Dodge or which girl is the prettiest on snare locks and cable combinations .

You're friend along the snare line .

Saskbone and other Sask trappers, what did you think of the FIC presentation at the Sask Convention? It was almost like a sales pitch with the ugly videos of free snares and rams. I’ve had poor catches with the little systems too, it’s all about set up. I wonder if Manitoba or Saskatchewan would ever ban the Ram? I know that our RTL guys will be switching over to the Senneker or Lights out system in a season or two, I can’t recall when it was coming into effect for them. They’ve always been able to use whatever they wanted.
I love the Lightsout system but I ain’t selling my rams, they got their place.
My best catch in a Lightsout was a wolf wandering into one in a swamp. We just got a 6” dump of snow and couldn’t see the snare. I thought a deer knocked it over as it’s happened at this spot twice before and there was zero disturbance in the cattails. Lo and behold there’s an outline of a nice grey under the snow. High neck catch with spring at about 2 o’clock. It must’ve got the arteries good and it was “lightsout” within seconds….lol. Several coyotes were the same result, very little mess. I love em just because everything goes into a little snare bag, a roll of #9 wire in a pocket or a few stands in the other hand. I left some of my 9 wire supports out in the bush this year, some spots are just gold every year.

At your convention, someone brought up the debate of storing with springs compressed or not. My wife had to leave cuz she was going to burst out laughing. Spring guys…… I piped up says my spring guy said this, Marty’s spring guy said this, but Dave’s spring guy said this. Everyone has a spring guy…..lol

What poundage breakaway S hook are you using. I have a ton of deer and need to add a good breakaway before I do trail sets.

That’s a 285 lber from fnt…they open up most of the time on deer. Now if you want a breakaway that will open up for all deer and even some coyotes, look at the senneker 265 haha. I do not recommend it, as it will cost you some coyotes.

Those weights vary a fair bit from the numbers. Marty said the manufacture takes an average but can’t guarantee an exact number for every one.

We have some big coyotes in my area. I catch 2 or 3 between 45 to 50 often. Do you think the 285 would hold them or should I go 300? I hear someone makes a 300.

I would stick with the 285s. I think they actually open at a higher poundage than advertised.

Here’s a little more info on Marty’s BADs…..

“ The Senneker-Elite line of BADs were broke tested in North Dakota in 2015 and again in 2022 at Alberta Innovates and Technology Futures for the Fur Institute of Canada. The 2022 Canadian results were consistent with the results obtained from North Dakota in 2015. The following results are based upon the averages of testing from both jurisdictions.

Senneker- Elite #265 - opens at 165 lbs*

Senneker-Elite #385 - opens at 240 lbs*

Senneker-Elite #645 - opens at 350 lbs* (not tested in Canada)

Senneker-Elite #750 - opens at 440 lbs*

Senneker-Elite #1000 - opens at 600 lbs* (not tested in North Dakota)
