Dealing on a new Frontier this week what an ordeal the salesmen acted like everyone’s stupid. Seems it’s all about what the dealer wants not much interest in what the buyer is looking for had my salesman fuming today. He’s looking at making several thousand on the sale and the trade in but insists I finance for 4 month minimum at 7.4 interest but I just wanted to pay the difference outright. Looks like cash is no longer king now. LOL I laughed I told him you want to give me $1,000 off then give you back $500 of it that’s funny.

They looked at my Tacoma listed it as good condition then wanted to take off for the few things that needed attention from the trade in offer. I said you just did that when you dropped it from excellent to good condition now you want to take off for that again. Shady as all get out

Made the offer over and over without involving financing but they played reindeer games they were stuck on the financing issue or they would add $1,000 back on the price so I said stick it don’t need it I have a good truck.

After heehawing around I got it for $500 less then I offered and I can payoff the minimum amount financed in 20 days with no interest so another grand off from what I was willing to pay before they played around.

At one point the salesman that apparently never heard the word no said I was rude and he was going to keep my deposit in a text. Sent back you can’t do that and you know it lol. His reply was you will get it back but lose my number. (I was devastated) LMAO Told him that would look great on the dealers Facebook account not that I’d do that but I bet he puckered a bit.

His manager called me later it did not go much better told him you’re trying to take at every angle but giving nothing so then I offered another $1,000 less out the door price no BS and hung up.

He called later today with the price I was willing to pay I pick up the truck tomorrow good thing I was planning on putting on the MTX tires I like on the truck straight from the dealer to the tire store. When the deal went south I went to the tire dealer and offered to pay the return fee or purchase a gift certificate for his trouble of ordering them he said don’t worry about it they would sell.

Hope to get the tires put on tomorrow also before I head home. A big hassle but I’m getting the truck I wanted for what I wanted to pay for it. Dealerships here are not easy to get to the one I’m dealing with is 120 miles away the next volume dealer 220 miles away for a Nissan . I was not above going to Omaha if I had to, find a dealer that offers the Costco program then you know they deal on vehicles.

They very likely lied and will stick you for paying off the financed amount early.

On my last new truck there was an incentive of an additional $1,000 discount to finance.
I financed $10,000 to get the additional discount. When the financing docs arrived i paid the balance in full. The $1,000 discount was worth 15 minutes of my time.

If a salesman gives me difficulty i will go to a different salesman.
If no better go to a different dealer.

With each turn of bargaining i reduce my offer.
Why? Because they are wasting my time and my time is valuable.
And yes it is effective.

That’s what I did I dropped $1000 every time they did not listen to change my offer until they payed attention. I’ve dealt with difficult people my whole adult life and I read people like a book. The biggest thing is don’t take it personally it’s just advanced communication the first one to get mad loses. Plus I notice everything and know what’s I’m dealing with when others think I don’t notice it’s a big advantage.

No early payment penalty I checked that and the manager confirmed that they fear the customer rating system more than anything and social media after that. Never be in a hurry to close out too soon until your 100% satisfaction is completed.

Good for Law on the new truck. Maybe a picture of that baby when you get it home.

There is nothing much worse than dealing with a salesman at a dealership. Very disgusting.

For years you paid what was in the window due to the oil boom here. Oil companies came in and ordered a dozen one ton PUs at a time and then ask what do I owe you and wrote a check. The dealers would not even talk to you. They told you to walk the lot and if you saw something you wanted to come tell you which one. The price was in the window.

Now that Toyota has lost favor with the changes and price hikes they made recently I think the Frontier will be the new Tacoma unless all their dealers act like the one I dealt with the last few days. LOL

I've heard that if you take the dealers financing you loose a lot of legal rights as a buyer. That you loose your rights to sue in court and must (per contract go through their (dealer supplied) arbitrator.

I was worried when our old dodge dealer died, he was great to deal with, but fortunately found a pickup at brown’s in Elkader a couple years ago and so far they’ve been great, there’s some closer one really close but I wouldn’t deal with them on anything.

20 days I can sweat that no problem then I’m clear. Lots of ways to keep a dealership in line without lawyers.

Last time I bought a vehicle after we haggled for a hour. I told the salesman ,I would bring him a cashiers check in the morning once the bank opened , then he ask where the money was coming from so me being me I told him that my runner would be back tonight and I would have the money .He made three trips back and forth to the manger’s office asking me the same question and I told him the same answer. It was rather funny I thought but the manager didn’t like it at all . But I thought after I told him I would bring a cashiers check he knew the money was good but they don’t listen at all.

They push financing because they get money back from the lending institution

Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)

They make A LOT of money from the lender. Easy way is finance, (usually you can't pay off for around three months) then pay off when able. Three month's interest can save you thousands.

Seen where 25% of income is from actual car sales the majority of income comes from financing, warranty programs, accessories. Here they add the strobe brake light system and spout phony safety data to bag a extra $300 told them don’t even think about it.

I'm not so sure the Tacoma has fallen out of favor, I seem to see a new one everywhere I look!
