I thought of these couple of minutes from the mini series Band of Brothers when I read the OPM memo yesterday (you may have to download it to be able to read it but its a legit government document). Maybe Lt. Speirs had the philosophy correct, if you already consider yourself dead (in this case my position), then perhaps more freedom of action can happen. I'm willing to do some gambling (not casino type of betting) on generating coin if (or more likely when) I get the ax but the wife is a bit more still in the "fear ditch".

I certainly won't miss the minders and the handlers telling me what and what I can't say. It will be an interesting spring and summer...

Probably depends on several factors like age, skill sets and if you're tied down to a specific location.

There comes a point liberalism has gone too far, we're past that point.

Im not really sure just what you are thinking??
I did have a long talk with one of my bit older than me cousins. He was a marine and got shot up in Nam. Healed and dropped right back into the Fight.
He told me pretty much what you stated. Once you understood that you were a dead man. Was easy to just do what you had to do.
I guess that means you only control your actions.

Was strongly advised not to reply to last OPM email - so I copied that guidance, paused as it said to, and then sent my reply. Half my office tried to take the buyout and they won't even let them yet or give them any guidance or tell them if they have been approved to quit. Firing here and there and still 75k without guidance on how to quit because they want to.

Sounds ironically inefficient! Happy trapping! ScottW

it is definitely a paradigm shift to say

I am already dead , now if I accept I am dead any minute and I am not getting out of here alive , what can I do differently , how can I take it to the enemy , how can I protect my brothers .

likewise if you live in a way that you have no debt and you don't NEED the job to pay your bills next week and have some savings you can live on a while , you are not so dependent on that job.

I wouldn't guy buying anything right now , go into bare minimums mode start putting out resumes to maybe get ahead of your colleagues take another job if it is good and comes up.
otherwise just keep hanging in there collecting checks and banking as much of them as possible as you can till they stop and you get laid off then collect the unemployment and keep looking for another job or turn your side hustle into a jobs.

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

TreedaBlackDog- How many years to you have in, if you want to say?

My department is pretty specialized, some could go on to work for universities, but that is more of a selective type of recruitment/hiring.

I could retire with my age but I don't want to take Social Security at this point. Not only because of the lower overall benefit but they can restrict how much you can earn in other employment until you reach your full retirement age. Last year it was less than $22,500 before you would start getting reduced a buck in SS for every $2 you earned from a job.

I believe he's talking about the movie segment and how that would free up the thinking and actions of the solider. And not the current situation.
