They were already putting shipped in fur on the tables yesterday. I heard they had 450 cats on the tables first thing this morning.

They really need to find bigger facilities. The items are already in multiple buildings. Not criticizing, just saying. When goods get that spread out it is difficult to keep an eye on everything.

Hope enough buyers show up to make it worth the shippers time and effort.

Is each cat sold separately? If not, how do they know which lot is which when they are so close together like that. Just curious.

There was a gentleman last year that went through and videoed all the fur.

Does anyone know who the contact is to ship there or where you ship to ? I always wanted to ship to a western state just to see how they would do with the craft buyers .

Tommie, go to the Idaho Trappers Association web page. It tells you how to consign items for auction/sale.

Idaho trappers have 2 sales each year. Mid January and early March. They tend to attract a fair number of craft buyers. Craft buyers tend to buy small quantities, so if you send a lot number of cats, lot them in small lots. 2-3 skins per lot.

Colorado trappers also accept shipped in fur.

Rusty - the guy that runs the Idaho sales - is going to be VERY busy for the next couple of weeks. You might want to wait a while before you contact him.

I'm here at the sale, seen quite a few people with bidding sheets. The book is thick, a total of 8,198 lots for auction. I'll admit I'm new so I'm unfamiliar with the buyers. Heard someone say they were up to 1,600 bobcat.

That sale tends to attract a lot of “craft” buyers. Looking for items other than raw fur. Probably 8-12 raw fur buyers there. Most likely less than 6 who will be major players. imo

I know the sale is sealed bid. How do they handle the “bid reading”.? Post it? Read out load? Give each seller a slip with their bids on it? Multiple ways to do “bid reading”. Each sale is a bit different.

Any updates?? According to Rusty’s schedule, things should start happening in about an hour. Can’t wait to hear what the top cat is.

I’m thinking $2,000.00 or more.

They hand you your paperwork pretty much the same as OTC. You tell their office people what to do with lots that didn't make your minimum.

You do realize that top cat is all about ego and bragging rights. Just happened to be one single cat that stood out from all the rest.

Will be interesting to see the average, especially if they average all the cats together. Those Texas and Tennessee cats will drag the average down IF they sold.

The thing is, the past couple years, they've separated the cats out in groups; South Western, Central, Western and even Eastern and Western Oregon cats. Then they list the average for each group. It gives a better gauge of a true average. Most certainly the Western Cats will be the highest. Also the Nephi sale had 40 or 50 cats that came in over a $1000

That is good to know that they separate the cats by section. Do they use the CITES tags to sort, or some other method?

If Kortum and Rocky Mountain are both there, could be interesting. Then you throw Pappas in the mix. And maybe add Groenwald’s cat buyer…….. sit back and watch the fun. smile

I heard the grease fur was displayed outside due to lack of room in the main building. Hope they had tables or at least tarps on the ground.

I would have thought wissmiss would have been at this sale.

Wissmiss is no longer actively participating in trapper fur sales. Health issues and old age have relegated me to being an observer.

If it was an OTC sale, results would have been available last evening, once the last lot had been shagged.

No, OTC did not have over 8000 lots!

But neither did ITA!!! Yes, there were lot numbers in the 8000 but that is because they have different sections, just like OTC

Raw fur gets one group of lot numbers. So does grease fur. So do antlers. So does tanned fur.

This sale even bobcats got their own section of lot numbers.

I don’t think you can comprehend how many lots 8000 would be. If each lot took up 12 inches, 8000 lots would be well over a mile of lots. There weren’t that many lots at GF.

Yes they had different lot numbers for each different animal
But each trapper had different numbers in each lot
Me for instance had 10 Cat's in 6 lots
When I walked through all the tables there were alot of
single lots, double lots and so on so when you total all those
there are alot of lots just for Cat's
I had 3 lots of beaver 2 lots of muskrat 5 lots of coyotes
2 lots of castor 1 lot of otter and my 6 lots of cats so that
totals 19 lots and that is just me

I think for cats you're allowed to lot each one separately.

They used to say no more than 3 cat lots per trapper, they are more flexible than that, but discourage individual lots. We had twelve cats in six lots this year.

I know you all have been waiting. Annie is currently in the Netherlands and got these to me. Couple notes, the "eastern" bobcat average is high because we put the Texas bobcats in that category. With 7 Texas cats going over a grand we should have put them in the SW category. Sorry it didn't transfer great from excel. Its 1 AM and still working through pile of fur not picked up.

Good job Rusty and crew! $50 for lower 48 Marten is good, and eastern red fox sold for about double what some of the eastern sales brought. Cats look more than solid! And $20+ for western beaver is really good.
