Needing to add a few more traps to the beaver arsenal,,while I do own some mb 750, a few cdr 750( which imo are the strongest beaver coils on the market) and some no bs beaver extremes,,,
I’ve never owned any bridger beaver sized footholds..they are a few bucks cheaper than the other brands..anyone have any reviews on them?
Are the #5 extremely hard to set without setters ? Coils dependable??
I looked at the #4 duke but I’d definitely want something with a 7.5 jaw spread.
Ts 85 are illegal here without modification on the jaws.

I prefer longsprings, much easier to set when standing in knee deep water and stabilize easier. I can set a Bridger 5 longspring over my knee without setters, without a problem. Never tried it with a coilspring 5, but I'm pretty sure I'd want setters even if I could do it, when using wet hands on a wet coilspring, on wet hip boots.

I'd choose the #5 Bridger CS over the LS.

I have run #5 coils for quite a few years and I like them. The springs are stout and I can't set them over my knee.

I have nothing clever to put here.

I would too...and I trap with them every day as I'm doing nuisance work.

The B5 coilsprings are good beaver traps. The spring are stout. If you can set a 750 or a CDR by hand then you won't need setters. But, if you cant....then setters will be needed. My one hand setters will set all the mentioned traps.

Bearcat makes a very good case for the #5 Long springs and exactly why I use them. But, seeing what you already have I wouldn't add another different brand and totally different style into the mix. There's something to be said about consistency and standardization.

Sure is...on the consistency.

I've tried all available beaver footholds currently available.

I'm pulling back to the MB750s.....as being the best overall.

Their coil springs are easy to set by hand. Easy enough that I don't use them for anything on land.

You don't wanna join the Bridger #5 club, be very careful.

Used the #5 L.S. for a few years and could set them across my knee. Mostly use #5C.S. now with a Setter. They are a good trap.

Ive used both bridger and duke #5 longsprings, they are both powerful traps with the duke holding the edge in spring strength, they can both be set without setters. I have found with the big longsprings that you sometimes get broken leg bones on front foot catches. The beavers are always drowned at the bag, but I think the trap might not swivel as well because of those longsprings biting into the river bottom as the beaver twists and fights his way down the wire. Big coils like the No Bs are better beaver traps in my opinion but the big LS are sure fun to use and they do hold whatever they close on..

You'll get an occasional toenail with the longsprings. Not a high percentage and not a deal breaker trapping fur but if you're doing nuisance control work, its unacceptable, and why most of us have retired the longsprings for beaver work.

Swamp, I'm curious why you like the 750's over the No BS beaver Xtremes?

My xtremes lock up so good I took the 4 coils off and just run 2 coils. I can set them by hand and haven't had the first bit of trouble with losing beaver.

The 750's cost $50 more per dozen and obviously aren't coated. Just curious why you choose them over the beaver xtreme? Don't like the dogless design?

Gotta live up to the nickname...

My #5 coils catch beaver. Caught me as well. The same day I got shaped in thet #5 I got shaped in a #2 dogless. The #5 was in a few inches of water but I felt the #2 a lot more. Figured the water has to slow it down some but question how much. Never had a problem setting them by hand and they are easier than my 750s.

Only thing I am not a fan of on the bridger coilsprings is the pan setup. In cold weather, get the dog into the pan notch is a pain in the butt, especially when wearing gloves. I like the bridger 5 longs but you better eat your Wheaties trying to set them by hand.
