Also if you check Iditarod.com you should be able to find race updates as they come in.

Will they just run a shorter course due to moving the start point or will they change the course to keep the same distance as they normally do?

Most of the teams are in between Manley and Tanana. They have completed about 140-150 miles of the race.

I'm going to disagree that beaver was often used as dog food. After the war, beaver trapping was either closed or restricted. When I arrived in 1978, all beaver had to be tagged and all management units had bag limits. 20 to 30 was the norm. Beaver carcasses were in short supply. Sure, mushers wanted them and payed a good price, but they couldn't get that many.
When I trapped in the Ruby area I could haul my carcasses to Ruby in the years the race went thru there. 15 to 20 bucks a carcass. Top mushers carried cash to buy beaver.
Not enough trappers around now.
Mushers also wanted green whitefish. I remember Dave Monsen had a business buying beaver in the lower 48 for a while. Sold it in bags.

Interesting piece of history. What about more current times?

All of the teams have made it through Manley Hot Springs, and about half of the pack has made it to Tanana. A few teams have already left Tanana and are on their way to Ruby, a distance of about 117 miles. There is only 75 miles from the front to the back of the teams, so it is relatively close race.

Does anyone have a guess who will win the race this year? My guess is Jason Mackey, Matt Hall, or Michelle Phillips.

14 of the 33 teams have checked in at Ruby checkpoint. So far it’s been a good race!

Also Brenda Mackey scratched her team from the race. She said she scratched in the best interest of her team.

Paige Drobney is looking good. Too early to make any predictions.

How long is the race and how many days does it take to complete?

I got myself a seniors' GPS.
Not only does it tell me how to get to my destination,
it tells me why I wanted to go there.

The race is 1128 miles long this year. Since the race has been rerouted, it is the longest Iditarod in history. The race typically takes 7-9 days for most of the field to complete it. We are expecting mushers to finish in 8-10 this year since it will be longer.

I’m not sure. He does play in the reality show called “Life Below Zero” though.
