With all of the liberals up in arms over the national parks cuts got me wondering- what is the stupidest thing your local National Park wasted tax payer money on?

Montezuma Refuge here in NY has a big bronze eagle statue- pretty sure taxpayers paid for that.

Government in general , Interstate 5 here in Oregon built a new bridge over the Willamette River , they had to add art! They put up some kinda Indian art in the middle, three pieces. I used to drive by them at least 20 times a day, and still could not tell you what any of the three say and that is after 15 years of 5 days a week times at least 20 trips a day. Stupid. Then they put up two more pieces on the outsides of the bridge. Drivers should pay attention to other drivers not art.

Local national park? No such thing here.

At the Valentine National Wildlife Refuges in the Sandhills, when the gubmint "shuts down" because they're pouting about not getting the budget they want, they put yellow tape across the road going into the refuge even though there's no gate there and no effort by fed employees to let people drive through on a gravel road It's ridiculous

Hiring 2 biologists and a geologist, all in the same park which had a wildlife biologist on staff, all for what is a good question.$100,000 metal roof on an older building which should have cost half that much,on a smaller scale a $7,000 motorized wheel barrow to transport building material up and down stairs,it was designed for flat surfaces and couldn't hope to utilize stairs, when they discovered it wouldn't work it was put in storage and some years later sold at auction, one small park had 2 Bob cats with all the implements and requested a third, hiring a foreman who didn't know a thing about being a foreman then coming up with a "crew leader" who's job was to lead the crews in maintenance work while allowing the "foreman" to keep his job,and on and on.The problem is govt agencies are top heavy, but every time their budget is threatened they lay off the basic services, calling them non essential and they tell the public if they don't get what they want they'll start shutting things down.If the public used its head instead of falling for their nonsense they'd insist that, since the park is shutting down then the.administration positions should start disappearing. But they consider their job "essential".

They closed down our lighthouse for repairs right in the peak tourist season.

This happens on USFS lands as well, on roads that they refuse to maintain. There is no need to close these roads and trails during times like you mention. It's just their attempt to punish us for voting the way we do. Just tear down the ribbon and barricades.

I didn't know of any National Parks in Ohio. I looked. We apparently have 9, none of which I've been to or heard of.

I live in a national forest which has few restrictions except for things like can't cut live trees without a permit. Recently there was a survey done to look at some roads that are in disrepair that are in line for maintenence. Ocasionally they install informational signs or renovate camping areas as well. Whether or not you consider that wasteful is a matter of personal beliefs though.

Why?All the national parks I know of you can't trap or hunt on.I would much rather have the land so a person can do those things.

Are you sure about that?

There comes a point liberalism has gone too far, we're past that point.

I don’t know if it’s the same for all national parks but I did some digging at the ones in my area and apparently it’s up to the current park director to decide if it is open to hunting and/or trapping. Where is the logic in that?

So you think if those national parks didn't exist you'd still have that land to hunt and trap on?.... HAHAHAHA...... crazy

National Parks are very different than National Forests. Most National Parks greatly restrict or don't even allow trapping, hunting and fishing. We need National Forests much more than National Parks.
