Im in the market for a new set of trolling motor batteries in the boat (to run a 24v Terrova).

The set of fleet farm batteries have been going good since 2019 but I noticed last summer they seemed to start loosing some substantial power after a few hours.

Whats everyone liking?

You always hear "no need to spend big money on this brand or that brand (usually interstate) as they're all made in the same factory" blah blah.

Also, big question. Are on-board chargers compatible with AGM and Flooded cell? I have flooded cells now, if I went to AGM's would I have to replace my charger/maintainer too?

Personally, I would consider Lithium Ion batteries.

Ever start max Walmart. 2 year replacement. Just replaced mine that were 8 years old. Heavy use. Just remember to ALWAYS recharge as soon as you get home. Original batteries from factory were interstate. Got 4 years out of them.

Lithium you can have them. Cost plus it only matters if 1 in 1000 catches fire and burns your garage if you are the ONE

I had a set of Optima AGM that were 6 years old and still strong when I sold my bass boat a couple years ago. Yes I used my onboard charger.

I currently have the Walmart MAXX batteries and they are from 2020 had holding charge through a full day of fishing. They are just extremely heavy.

I would love to try the lithium batteries but have trouble justifying the cost.

What jbyrd63 said and always keep them charged. I take mine out and put in heated garage over the winter on a piece of wood and trickle charge them a few times over the winter. Going on year 9 with mine

Google the closest interstate battery and go buy reconditioned scratch and dent marine batteries but get there before it warms up or they are hard to come by. About $80 each. Then put a trickle charger on them and keep them plugged in 24/7 365.

Watt cycle are good affordable lithium batteries. $169 for 100ah. Supposed to have low temperature cut off but I fully charge mine and bring it a heated building from the winter. LiTime are also a good economical option. Watt cycle actually has a website where you can deal with warranty issues if they happen

Lithium with a smart charger I have 8 years on my 2 batteries. Yes they cost more but last longer are lighter and a pain changing out batteries every 3 years.

Forget to add my boat stays in climate control building so that might add to life if batteries. One question is how old are you? How long you going to be fishing? Why pay 5 times the amount fir lithium? Now if you take your battery out every time you use it yes get the light weight. My ever start hadn’t been touched in 8 years. They also were still working I just had the money and didn’t want to risk going fishing and have a dead battery 369 bucks for 3 29C ever start maxx could have bought the truck on the other thread for what lithium batteries would have cost

I agree with jbyrd. I'm not sure how old mine are but I use the boat 4-6 times a week all summer. I also charge them when I get home every night.

For those considering lithium: unless you also have a gas motor to get you back when the battery drains, you should look at litium batteries that have bluetooth on their BMS. Then you can check the state of charge using your phone, so you know when to head back to the boat ramp.

Thats kind of where im at.

If I used it weekly all summer, id invest in the spendy stuff. Id also have $4000 worth of forward facing sonar too!

But its hard to justify that kind of money on something that doesnt get used that often. The boats almost 30 years old after all!

I know you don't want to hear it. Lithium lol.

You can put a live scope in a boat for around 2500.

In your situation, I would go with the Everstarts.

The Fleet farm batteries are good, you had good success with them why change? I don't know who makes them I suspect they are Interstate.

There are a lot of good brands of lithium, and they'll outlast any lead-acid, plus they are a lot lighter, but a LOT more expensive and you may have to upgrade your charger also.
