What will scrap iron prices do with iron tariffs coming?

I wonder if it will affect all types of metal like aluminum, copper, brass, etc? Might be wise to sit on what you have to see.

Ferrous scrap came up some in February and is supposed to go up substantially this month but prices haven’t settled yet, normally they do by the 10th so keep an eye out.
Aluminum prices are up now.
Copper has gone down a little but is still pretty darn good.
Metals prices change daily, lot of uncertainty right now.
Steel and iron go month to month, sometimes go up mid-late month.

My brother went in one day last week with things been picking off curb. Said what I call whites pile or shred steel was $170 ton. I think if I recall correctly load I took last fall was at just $70 ton.?? I maybe wrong?? Just know its been quite a while since it was anywhere over $120 ton. I might have to start grabbing things off curb again myself.

Prices kind of tanked on Tuesday. I was selling sheet at 180.00 a ton. Now we are at $120.00. Bare bright copper went from $3.80 a pound to $3.10.

I agree with bravert. It is the I uncertainty of the market/Tariffs. I am still getting $2.00 a pound on yellow brass as of yesterday!!!!

Not knowing where and who you sold to in ohio the mills widened their spread on copper, I didn't go wild raising prices like some so when this adjustment happened I kept my prices the same. 3.55 b.b. 3.45 #1 3.15 #2 if a customer has a large quantity I can always adjust numbers where needed, I wouldn't say they tanked at all.

Our scrapyards are full reason being they are selling used car parts which is fine However if you want to get rid of scrap they are pretty well not interested unless you just give it away or haul it home

Tariffs are basically a tax on imports paid by those in the US who do the importing. Since scrap is an american generated commodity -like american made steel which will not be subject to tariffs - why would tariffs affect scrap prices?

That is most likely due to the cost of shipping; from the middle of the Country to one of the coasts for export.

I suppose it is. Kind of a shady outfit and not much competition close to sell too also.

With the cost of shipping hard to make it pan out where I am. A lot of scrap metal goes overseas not sure if it will be hit with tariffs.
