Wife and I worked a booth this past weekend at a knife and gun show. We did a walk around just to see what was out there. You can find all kinds of neat stuff at shows.

I was amazed at how many vendors had tables of junk from Temu. They must have gone crazy ordering the crap. I was in the market for a knife so I asked a couple of vendors about a knife. They had no idea what kind of steel it was, where it was made or what kind of blade it had.

I think I ticked off one guy when he told me that, with the tarrifs, the price of a good knife will only go up. I told him good knives AND these knives. A good knife is seldom cheap.

I have a friend who buys interior decor items by the 40-foot container load from China. She ends up throwing about 1/3 of it away due to poor quality.

I retired from tool and die trade and always worked with tool steels. Buck was my go to because they used D-2 tool steel at 58 RC hardness. New guy started work and talked about new die steels called CPM. Saw bench made brand was using all these high tec steels and RC 60 to 62. Bought one and amazed how long these knifes hold a excellent edge. Use to sharpen my buck once or twice a month. This bench made Iv sharpened 3 time in the year Iv owned it. Yes expensive but that CPM steel is expensive and tuff to work with.

good knives shouldn't change , there isn't that much steel in a knife and a good knife is already made in the USA

there is a show here in a few weeks , good show typically.

but I am just having little interest in shows lately , and yes SO much junk and then a few god things

problem is the guys with good stuff get fewer and older every year.

the amount of junk and ridiculous prices higher every year

They get worse and worse. Around Michigan at least.

The guys who want to wheel and deal are replaced by the big shops selling NIB stuff that are asking exactly what they sell for online and the price is what it is.

The rest of the tables are selling chinese knives, pampered chef kitchen tools, chip dips, beef jerky and imported leather belts.

here you would be lucky if they were selling NIB guns for the internet price

here take a couple bucks of MSRP or add a little to MSRP , they play on the gun shows are a deal

more than once someone bought at a gun show , brought their purchase to the local shop looking for magazines and found out the same thing was 20 dollars less at the store and came with 2 magazines.

BC-Buck,
CPM steels have been around for quite a while. When I was doing tool design in the late 90's for powder metal dies and punches we always spec'd CPM10V or CPM15 depending on the material composition being pressed. Pretty tough steel, and it does hold a great edge once sharpened.

I'm not a big fan of any big crowd event. We go to see what's out there, meet friends and grab a meal. Meals are usually fund raisers for some outdoors group.
This year the funds from the meal were going to a local high school trap team.

Going to go to the gun show in Bozeman today. I've had good luck at the last few shows both buying and selling, so far sold what I brought and brought back home something new. Running out of trading pieces but I meet up with my son and we browse the show, have him carry the guns, then get something to eat

The shows are designed for all participants. If there wasn’t a market for the stuff. Nobody would be buying it.

The trick is. You have to look for what you want.

There are a lot of people coming to the shows now as newcomers. What maybe garbage to you. Maybe a Gem to them.

I buy and sell. Do many shows per year. The one thing I was taught. Bring merchandise for all ages and price ranges.

USA made is still the best. But not everyone can afford top of the line.

That, right there is whats turning me off to gun shows.I've been to some all over this state and more and more I'm seeing products that have nothing to do with guns or knives.Like Chinese made trinkets.

Tables are $40 here in Minot. So two tables the drive in and a cup of coffee a day is $100. On 10% you have to sell $1000 and all you did is break even. So then you need to sell another $1000 to make it worth sitting there for nine hours. I would bet $40 is on the low side for a table.

Do some guys try and sell a fairly new rifle for $40 more than the brand new one too?
I think their wives tell them that they have to sell some guns but they don’t want to. Then they can come home and say that they just didn’t sell.

No paperwork here on used guns, just hand the cash over and walk off, some people find that worth the extra few bucks.
