We bought a new microwave yesterday and it has a door lock. When you put something in it and heat it, you have to push an unlock button to get the door open button to work. Why? What is the reason for it. Is there a reason or is it just another added nothing like so many things.

I guarantee a lawyer had something to do with it. Most all of them are detached from reality and hove no clue what a negative effect they have on society in general. I refer you to Congress and Senate. Nearly ALL are lawyers.
How many lies will people believe before they realize their own idiocy?

Probably for the same reason you can't open an oven door when it's in the self cleaning mode. When it shuts off it will not open unless you push a button to unlock it. If it were running and it would not open would be one thing. Will an oven door open when the cycle is finished?

It's been a few years since I've done the appliance repair thing (I hated working on appliances) but, as I recall, there were interlocks that prevented the door from opening until the temperature in inside the oven dropped below a certain temperature.
Very possible I'm wrong. I haven't looked at an appliance schematic in maybe 15 years.

What are the special dangers? I don't want to do something stupid, lol.
I got myself a seniors' GPS. Not only does it tell me how to get to my destination, it tells me why I wanted to go there.

as much as it is a turn off to you , it is a selling feature who people who think that the micro waves will burn them
these would of course be the people who have no idea they hold a microwave radio up to their head every day and talk at it.
yes the microwave oven is a higher power but before the door could open even a 1/16 of and inch the energy inside is dead
there was a lot of fear mongering about microwave ovens and ill effects many years ago. some people still believe that stuff.
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

It's a child safety lock. Read your directions you can turn them off. I just got a new one and turned off the lock. Is it as easy as turning off the seat belt dingy thing on a truck?
