I felt the same when I sold off all my bird dogs. I didn't like it but at the time I was on a walker could not run them 3 or 4 days a week on birds like they were used to and I was not in a good place mentality either so sold them to guys that would run them and compete with them.

I miss it and now have the perfect training area at home but will never compete again or dedicate the time to I
them they would deserve.

At the end of the day you did what you felt was best for you dog. He lives to chase rabbits and you put him in the best place he can do what he loves. Doesn't mean it makes it easy to say goodbye. But you did what you thing was best for your dog.

I will miss your posts about your rabbit hunts with them. They were some of my favorites.

We will all get to a point one day where we can no longer do everything we enjoy

Musket will carry on and the new owner will find satisfaction working him

There will come a day when you'll be selling your traps and wishing you had those beagles back.

I feel your pain Bruce. Always sad when I sell a hound that I’ve had for a while and grown attached to. I’m sure you sold him to a good home where he’ll have many more years of trailing rabbits.

A sad time for sure. I never had the courage to let any of my dogs go.

this getting old and having health issues is a constant , struggle of letting go of the things you love.

at least you found him a good home and he will do what he should be doing.

and you can find new things to enjoy in AZ

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

It is hard to beat the bawling of beagles in hot pursuit of a cottontail or hare. Some of the most memorable times spent in the field.

Why not take your dog along?

Mine would be going with me.

Why not?

If its a good hunting dog, it'll learn right fast to hunt something else.
