River rising fast so I had to pull one day before our season ends. Not really a great season for me overall, river was often rising or falling too fast, then a prolonged two week cold snap, some boat motor issues...in fact, wasn't even sure I was going to make it back to the landing today. Got water in the crankcase and the compression was diminishing a lot a little sheen of oil every time I needed to start it.

Last day pics: 8 beaver today

I ended up with 156 beaver for the season. Twenty trap nights with an average of 14 traps set per night and a 57% catch rate. Also caught 13 otters and a scad of nutrias. With the beaver carcasses on my land line part of things I also caught 10 bobcats and 12 civets.

Not as good as last year when I caught 300 beaver. Now... to skin the last beavers for K. Falls and harvest some of the meat to grind into burger. smile

300 beaver! No wonder how you got your handle! Make sure to post the end of the line photos with fur all put up. Those are my favorite

Sorry to disappoint but I sell 'em as fast as I have 'em dried and ready. I've already been to two fur auctions this season.

Thanks for sharing. Can I ask the size of the boat and size of the motor?
Thanks

nice... thats an impressive catch ratio. i average about 3 to 4 beaver per 10 traps set on a 2 day check. 35 to 40% average..nice catch for the season by any standards!

If I remember correctly, quite a few years back, 17% of the beaver trapped in the State of Oregon were trapped by peeler.

Carl - correct me if I’m wrong.

One year it was 19%. Quite a few years have been around 17% give or take. Oregon's beaver harvest has been dropping for years now. Last year there was record for (I think 2022-23) it was just over 1000 beaver. Earlier in my career I had three seasons of over 500 beaver! Now if I lived in Minnesota......I would have to be a lot more ambitious, something that is waning the older I get. LOL
