Paid taxes on the truck plus plates and title transfer close to 1K total. I know some states are way crazy on vehicle taxes but in the past SD was rather reasonable but things have doubled over the years. Today I figured I’d pay the difference between what my trade in was and what I payed in the difference.
Maybe this is common but if there’s a dealer rebate of say $2,500 that you don’t pay they tax you on that also. I can’t think of any other business that sells you anything off MSRP then taxes you for more than the price you paid for it.

Here in Illinois if you trade in a vehicle worth 20k or more you pay sale tax on the vehicle you purchased and sales tax on the value of the car you traded in.
We bought a boat from my mother in law and paid very little. Since it was from a family member we only paid tax on the amount we paid. However if it had not been a family member and we paid less than what the state valued it at then we would have to pay taxes on the states assumed value and not the purchase price.

When i moved to Michigan they wanted me to pay taxes on vehicles i already owned. Told them to catch me and left less then a year later, glad Nevada doesn't charge tax on private sales.

Six percent of price here in Pa. But if you’re getting 100% disability from VA, there’s no tax. 8% here.

It was 3% years ago then it went to 4% before 2018 at least. I just don’t get how they can charge tax on the factory rebate everything has a MSRP so if I go out and buy a $1,000 couch on sale for $500 I don’t pay the tax on $1,000 I pay on the $500 purchase price.

The taxing of the total MSRP figure is predatory that’s the only time they pull that BS because they can get away with it.

This is one of the main reason I purchase a vehicle and drive it until it completely fails. It is taxed ever time it sells in MO.
