I saw that too. Wonder how uniform round they are? I alway thought lead had to drop like 60ft or something to be round. Hence the old shot towers?

Depending on what you are using it for uniform is not always a concern. I reloaded and shot 100's of pounds of reclaimed shot and none of it is round.

My grandpa ran literal tons of shot through a maker like the two pics above. Oil level was important to nicely shaped shot.

Is there a heat source under that first contraption? I'd think the lead would harden before it could all drip out that little screw hole.

So thats oil it drops into not just cold water bath. I never gave it much though just figured wa a water.

If I would have seen something like that when I first started loading back in my teens. I would probably have played with it.

I believe it was transmission fluid. He ran all the shot for the guys he shot trap leagues with. they shot in 5 or 6 leagues. One of the other members got the setup when he passed.

Many a summer day I sat in the garage with him, running shot while he sipped a Miller Lite listening to the Brewers.
