Those are dandy looking beaver pelts NF! Wish my late season beaver could look like those.
Although my season is done I hope that I still get to trap beaver into the future. The anti's pulled a fast one and introduced a bill to the Energy, Climate and Environment Committee in the past days of our legislative session to ban beaver trapping. We only knew of it this last weekend. The antis are claiming that beaver would have prevented the forest fires we've had, and that even the loss of one is a tragedy.
We may lose this one. They already successfully banned recreational trapping of beaver on private forestland in Oregon.

You'd have to change your handle too. To formerly known as beaverpeeler. I hope you guys beat this one. I'm not sure I know what "recreational trapping of beaver on private forestland" means Does this mean you can't trap on your own land, but only public?

"Recreational trapping" would be what most of us call fur trapping. The private forestland they refer to is all the big players like Weyerhauser, Georgia Pacific, etc. Any of the ones with over 50,000 acres of woodlands. Not small woodlot owners.

I just filled out my Oregon report, and I thought the way it read, any land where the trees were grown primarily for timber harvest was considered forestland, regardless of size. Of course Fish and Wildlife doesn't mention any of it being illegal on the report, you just have to fill out what area you were trapping in, whether it was forestland or not, private or not, and why you were trapping, with one of the options being recreation. And of course the golden question is...were you trapping public or private land if all the land up to the high water mark is by definition public in Oregon.
