Which would be honest without actually seeing it.

What happens this year is no indication what so ever what will happen next year. Sorry to debunk your theory.

The odds of being under $1 are considerably higher than being over $30.

What is "Pirate Ship"...? Is it part of UPS or another company that uses UPS as part of the process??

I always find it fascinating that some other non "Big Three" shipper can magically appear and ship across the country for way less, but perhaps such great deals do occur. If I use UPS here, and not having a business account, they aren't that much cheaper than the post office. If I use either straight UPS or FedEx, I have to drive into big town to ship with them.

There is a western Midwest carrier called "Spee-Dee" that is considerably less for shipping heavier or bulky dimensions (once shipped the main frame of an old bicycle to western Illinois with them) that I've used, and its closer than UPS and about the same distance as FedEx. However, they won't take a CC so its either exact cash or a check and basically you have to flag down one of the loaders or drivers to at their building to get the deal done. Sort of an adventure but its bee worth it, if the shipping area is in their coverage area.

P.S. I have shipped boxes of E-scrap to a place in metro Cleveland, so not overly huge in size dimensions but solid weight and I have found FedEx the cheapest. But the E-scrap has to be more of the high end value items to make it work $$ wise, at least mid-grade boards or higher value things. Now that company only wants 3 different types of things in a single box so that limits the utility of a bulk box of say 6 to 8 bags of different items. .

Pirate Ship is a software program. Not owned by any of the big 3. They use both UPS and post office.

They negotiate rates with the 3 shipping companies based on volume of business they will generate. They guarantee “X” amount of business, which is far greater than any one company can. Thus they get better rates.

Best part is it is FREE. No subscription. No monthly fee. No surcharges. Plus it is super easy to use.

Some of the discounts are as much as 50% off rack rates.

Exactly! I asked Dave Bewick a few years ago and realized it was a stupid question as soon as it came out of my mouth….lol
Exactly what he told me……$1-$30.

Thanks for the explanation wissmiss. I still don't understand how the big three make money off of letting Pirate Ship use them but if it works for individual shippers, then that's probably a good deal!!

Lugnut, I hope your reddies do well at FHA!! With "well" being a relative term for 2025...

I don’t have real high expectations. I’m hoping for at least a $10.00 average. The central section reds averaged just under $11.00 in the last FHA sale. So I hope that holds or improves during the May sale.

Oh, okay. For some reason I was thinking it was in May.

Now it makes sense why my agent told me to call him at the beginning of June so he could give me my new account number. I was thinking that was odd because it would’ve been after the May sale. LOL

Thanks wissmiss.
