What is "Pirate Ship"...? Is it part of UPS or another company that uses UPS as part of the process??
I always find it fascinating that some other non "Big Three" shipper can magically appear and ship across the country for way less, but perhaps such great deals do occur. If I use UPS here, and not having a business account, they aren't that much cheaper than the post office. If I use either straight UPS or FedEx, I have to drive into big town to ship with them.
There is a western Midwest carrier called "Spee-Dee" that is considerably less for shipping heavier or bulky dimensions (once shipped the main frame of an old bicycle to western Illinois with them) that I've used, and its closer than UPS and about the same distance as FedEx. However, they won't take a CC so its either exact cash or a check and basically you have to flag down one of the loaders or drivers to at their building to get the deal done. Sort of an adventure but its bee worth it, if the shipping area is in their coverage area.
P.S. I have shipped boxes of E-scrap to a place in metro Cleveland, so not overly huge in size dimensions but solid weight and I have found FedEx the cheapest. But the E-scrap has to be more of the high end value items to make it work $$ wise, at least mid-grade boards or higher value things. Now that company only wants 3 different types of things in a single box so that limits the utility of a bulk box of say 6 to 8 bags of different items. .
