No, but no reason not to if you find what you want.

If you don't have one you can get one from a pawnshop, yeah. But you can get a new 22 for what, $150? Less even. It's not a super high bar to clear.

I've bought several revolvers and rifles from pawn shops and Cabela's used gun rack, some were hidden gems.

Its spring time. Find some work. Save your money and buy something you can shoot till your too old and give to your kid.

Yep, imo it's hard to find a .22lr that WON'T make a decent trap line gun.
Tip.

Avoid semi autos unless it's something well known or easy to fix . Ruger 10/22's for example

But seriously all you need is something that will shoot straight all of what..25yd mabye something for a lil scope

If you find one of these for 200 or less they are a dandy. Never seen one that wasnt accurate. So simple they last forever. If needed a part is not hard to find or make.

Don't think I've gotten a hold of a older .22lr with a decent barrel that wasn't as if not more accurate then current production.

Honestly haven't delt with any .22lrs that weren't decent enough to be trap line guns . Usually the main issues are feeding

P.S. if you use a rifle for trap dispatch use shorts. LR is fine in a pistol.

This is what you’ve got at 6’ so it doesn’t matter if it’s from a pawn shop or from Uncle Louie’s widow as long as it shoots a .22 !!!

And to be honest the more I walked to my lil line the more I preferred having a good pistol . Just do yourself a favor if you get one and make sure it has ADJUSTABLE sights . Had a rough rider for my first trap line pistol, was great but the fact I had those fix sites made it a pain. Yeah you could grind and peen and some other crap but always just wished I had some sites I could adjust and zero to hit exactly where I wanted without a bunch of cow boy stuff . Heck now I'm thinking one with a micro red dot or some super small scope would be my jam. Wanna be able to put one in there ear from 10' no have to press it up to their temple....nothing like having to do that with a P'ed off coon in the water on a long chain

That was another great video and explanation. I remember seeing it before, I use it and it works. Thanks for posting it.

Saw a hare the other day while running my beaver line that would have made a nice dinner if I had any ammo for my 22 at the time. You can also ocassionally get the mate of a trapped animal when they hang out nearby. Doesn't hurt to be able to shoot at least 25 yards.

3 x

And I 2nd wolf on tye adjustable sights. The only .22 in my house that's a trap line only at 10' os a junk h and r .22. it was given to my 14 year old a few years ago ot it would be in the trash. It's out of time and will shave the bullet so don't stand besid someone shooting it. Does not shoot to point of aim even close you have to ame a few inches off targe. Had to take the barrel odd and tighten it up it worked loose.

All the same problems I have seen from every one that has been shot a lot.

Every other .22 we have is great and there are several to pick from.

had a few

twice last year I walked up on a location I knew had 1 trap where there were 2 dinks sitting there , I was getting paid to get rid of all the coon from the barns and area around them.
shoot the one not in the trap from more than 6 feet not real far about 30 feet
I got 4 others I just caught running as I was headed into a barn or while I was checking the place out
I was using a wrangler for most of those , but one morning pulling in the drive had 2 running across the yard got them with the 10/22

then as I was pulling away from the other farm I was trapping to get the coons that ate grandmas hens and ripped the coop open.
huge bore out in the pasture washing in a puddle
it was about 175 yards I walked in closer because I knew the 10/22 wasn't going to be good past 100 , I got to about 80 yards when it spotted me , I still got it on the run.

I carry the wrangler and leave the 10/22 laying on the seat 25round mag next to it that way I can pop the mag in and go and not have to reload

my advice is get a 10/22 you can do about anything with them just switching out some parts

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.
