Yep, imo it's hard to find a .22lr that WON'T make a decent trap line gun.
Tip.
Avoid semi autos unless it's something well known or easy to fix . Ruger 10/22's for example
But seriously all you need is something that will shoot straight all of what..25yd mabye something for a lil scope
THIS^^^^ except, I have NEVER needed a trapline firearm that did it’s work further than 6’! Think about the circumstance!
had a few
twice last year I walked up on a location I knew had 1 trap where there were 2 dinks sitting there , I was getting paid to get rid of all the coon from the barns and area around them.
shoot the one not in the trap from more than 6 feet not real far about 30 feet
I got 4 others I just caught running as I was headed into a barn or while I was checking the place out
I was using a wrangler for most of those , but one morning pulling in the drive had 2 running across the yard got them with the 10/22
then as I was pulling away from the other farm I was trapping to get the coons that ate grandmas hens and ripped the coop open.
huge bore out in the pasture washing in a puddle
it was about 175 yards I walked in closer because I knew the 10/22 wasn't going to be good past 100 , I got to about 80 yards when it spotted me , I still got it on the run.
I carry the wrangler and leave the 10/22 laying on the seat 25round mag next to it that way I can pop the mag in and go and not have to reload
my advice is get a 10/22 you can do about anything with them just switching out some parts
