Are folks that are getting a check from their investment/retirement accounts getting a smaller check because of the market?

Does that mean there’s not an actual, realized loss?

My monthly dividends have decreased with the market downturn,,,

It’s not a show stopper

Can’t have upside, without occasional downside

I think it's more like the construction contractors game. Example, was figured to make $10,000 on project but only made $9,999 so the project lost money.

That's how my company claims it.

So it’s true, the “people” are upset about the loss and the “government” is upset they aren’t getting taxes on the gains?

No, I have a set amount that comes from my retirement account. My balance went down greatly last week. But I’m in for the long game since I retired early at 55, so riding it out and waiting for it to recover……

What is the tech stock that was discussed on here several months ago? Want to say the stocks name started with an N. My sometimers has kicked in and I can't seem to remember.

It is highly unlikely that companies will decrease dividends paid due to the recent market downturn unless it is sustained for a long period. Stock value may be down but that is only important when you sell. Hold on and ride it out. The only people that are really affected at this point are those about to retire and who want to change their investments to better align with retirement. For everyone else this is a buy opportunity IMO.

This is what I did concerning stocks.

I bought stock in a local bank. The stocks rarely change much in price but the dividend is what I was after. I'm getting 7.1% on what the price was when I bought in.(dividend of 88 cents a year a share hasn't changed for years)
I'd probably sell if it makes a big jump but otherwise I'll collect the dividend check every quarter.

There comes a point liberalism has gone too far, we're past that point.

People that borrow money from brokers, and purchase stocks “margin calls” and become over leveraged get burned big time on a rapid pull back

That’s why you see a lot of forced selling during downturns
