What is up with a new law that does NOT allow the eating of nuisance beaver meat?
I saw this a Minnesota Star Tribune article dated 11/1/2024? Any truth to it? And WHY?

It's true. If it's a nuisance beaver, taken outside of the regular season, you cannot use the meat. I'm sure there are tons of beaver poachers out there with a huge black market for beaver meat!

I don't eat beaver meat, but might have to try some now. The way I see it, once you are to the eating stage that beaver is no longer a nuisance.

I honestly think our local CO has better things to do than find out if somebody is eating beaver out of season....

Common sense is a not a vegetable that does well in everyone's garden.

I tried it once and had to chew Copenhagen for a month to get the taste out of my mouth.

I have nothing clever to put here.

Same here. I could taste the castor with every bite. I like the smell of castor, just not the taste.

My dog licked her butt for days trying to get the taste out of her mouth.

You can't legally use any part of any animals you trap for nuisance control out of season in Iowa either.

I wonder if you can still feed it to your dog without getting into trouble.

Better yet, feed it to the neighbors dog and let them enjoy the farts.

You can't take the fur either. Every nuisance job I got during the warmer months, I was reminded by the COs that I couldn't keep the hide. I told everyone of them, "Why would I want it? It's not worth the effort to skin it." It is a shame to waste them, though. You'd think you could get a permit to tan a hide and donate it to a school science class or something. I let some really beautiful beaver rot over the years.

Here in ND I would guess we have a less then a tenth the beaver MN does and our season is open year around. It never closes, and no one cases what you do with nuisance beaver. It is funny how much different boarding states can be.
