Dose any one do this. I think this would be beneficial for me because I have quite a few duck hunters in the marsh that I will be trapping rats in next year.

******* I save my sick days, because come winter, I'm gonna have a bad case of trappin fever *******

I have used an axe to make a flat place on existing logs to place traps on. Works really good where there is a toilet.

Well floats just don't seem to work for me.

I have never had any luck with them either. I see they seem to work in the spring, but I've never had the opportunity to use them then since we don't have a spring season here.

Floats shine in the spring in larger marsh areas where there are not a lot of places for rats to get out of the water. I'm pretty sure it's breeding season thing. I've had very limited success in the fall and times in the spring where I had two traps per float and 60 rats from 32 floats. I'd stick to floats made with plywood, 1x 2s and 3/4 high density foam on the bottom to keep your traps consistently at the proper level. I add mud and local vegetation to get them at the perfect level.

I respect The Beav and others but I disagree with them. I tried a few floats on my line last fall and they worked just as well as other baited 110 and 1.5 sets. Check out any of my last dozen YouTube videos to see the proof. If you are worried about hunters, logs with foothold might be a good option. Give them a try and see what happens.

Find someone in the building trades and get scrap 2X4s it’s a lot easier to do it that way. I’ve used them in the spring in deeper waters if I had to do it again I’d make the spindle trap V type it seem if I used 2 traps the first rat was caught or set off both traps on the floats I used.

Floats in the back of this photo.

If you get a chance to pick up "Muskrat's by the 1000's" produced by Mark Steck, starring Rich Kaspar, you will see how it's done. It was filmed on my trapline on the marshes of the Missouri River. You might even catch a glimpse of me. Lol

If there's alot of hunters around I would avoid floats, they always go "missing". Duck hunters are way less likely to find other sets.

I think it's a ND thing. Floats and stools where rat killing machines when I trapped in ND. But they never worked for me in WI.
