Went to pattern a 28ga for turkey. Didn't give it a second thought. Holy crud, intense recoil. Im not recoil shy, having shot 505 Gibbs, 416,375 etc. But when you're expecting woosy 28s and fire 1 1/8 oz loads in a 6.5lb gun, its awakening!

I like autos for heavy loads I had an Ithaca 87 3” I bought for turkey hunting it killed on both ends. It had vicious recoil just trying to pattern it was torture. Sometimes a heavier gun can be your friend some of the new turkey models have recoil systems built into the stocks now because of recoil issues.

Yes throwing more shot slower was no advantage I found that out goose hunting.

Only throwing 1-1/8oz of shot your recoil shouldn't be that severe. Are these shells you loaded or something you bought?

1 1/8 oz is very heavy for a 28 gauge, I think 3/4, 7/8 is normal....

Well, if it has that extra shot, then it has less powder. Only so much room in that shell, lol.

That can be adjusted with various wad styles and powder types. Get a reloading manual and use the reloading data very carefully and don't deviate.

1-1/8oz is nothing for 28ga in the turkey load world. I have loads in 28ga all the way up to 1-3/4oz
