Set some muskrat traps again. Most were either triggered or completely buried. Swans have been using the muskrat lodges to make their nests.

I guess you figured out its not a good time of the year to be setting on muskrat huts.

There's that dang learning curve again. Lol. You'll get em figured out, yet. Very important to always be observing and thinking while setting traps. What can go wrong, will go wrong.

Life sure is tough when you don't learn from the mistakes of others.

I shot a swan off assatigue island. breast was better than goose, not as good as duck. Made a stew out of 1/2 breast. couldn't tell it from speed beef.

Don't know about those northern swans, but mute swans are good eats, very similar to beef.. cool

Can you translate speed beef.

Speed beef is usually referring to deer or antelope

I think FishingHoleFind is replying metaphorically. As in the swans wrecking his sets was a bitter pill to swallow.

I could be wrong, maybe he actually ate one and found it unappealing, but I don't think so.

Duck is pretty good, I might rate it above venison when properly prepared.

Swans are tasty critters. I have killed a few. They are decent.

Stop over cooking your meat! It isn’t gamey, it’s over cooked!

Yep live and learn where to set. A spot that would produce a lot of early spring beaver for me is compromised by hundreds of nesting geese. Guess how I found this out

Correct. No season for swans around here. And I haven't seen any roadkilled yet.

Fishing hole, aren't you in Cordova? Rural Alaska has spring waterfowl. Can't shoot Trumpeters but I know they shoot tundra swans. I've shot a few myself when I lived in rural Alaska.

You have to be farther north for the tundra swan. I can hunt geese and snipe and cranes though.

Tundra swan is tasty stuff. Better to skin them rather than pluck. The skin and fat adds too much richness and can upset the stomach if you aren't used to eating it. I cube the breast meat and stew it with a chopped onion then finish it off with a package of onion soup mix. Served with rice or potatoes it's good eating
