Back in Nebraska, I used to call the local warden whenever I was doing an ADC job. After about the 5th call, he said "just go ahead and trap whatever you need to, if anyone complains, let me know and I will set them straight."
When I got to Minnesota, I trapped a few problem beaver, with DNR permission, and I had to keep track of how many beaver I caught and they limited my catch to a certain number per job. I also had to tell them where the fully-furred carcases were at so they could check up on me. I have since decided, they need the problem beaver more than the county is willing to pay. For the record, the county supervisors were great, it was the DNR who had/have their heads up there.

I have two that I deal with and they are both very easy going and understanding, but I wouldn't want to upset either one!

We are making headway on trying to remove stupid laws here in MN but the senate is full of newly elected democrats so we have our hands full. Right now it's more damage control and not being able to keep summer beaver isn't necessary on the top of our list.

Theres a story behind the new law. I wont go into the long specifics but some democrats were mad at a Republican Senator so they put that into a bill at the very end of last session just to irritate him. Its really not a big deal, who eats beaver taken in the summer anyway. Its likely going to be repealed before the session ends, if not this year then next. The Senate environmental committee voted to repeal it, but the House hasnt taken the time yet.

I’ve eaten late fall and winter beaver. If they’re corn fed, they’re very good. If they’re aspen, maple, ash or whatever fed, they’re gamey, at best.
Under the laws of most states, you can sell any legally caught/harvested game. But nuisance game, is usually taken out of season. And as such it can’t be used. I don’t have any problems with this. The eagles and crows enjoy the free meals.

Goldy it was changed last year or year before where you could utilize the fur, castor or skull, correct Yes its now legal to keep fur, castor, and meat on beaver taken on a nuisance permit, you just cant eat it. That got that passed last year.
