I know several people who ate morels most of their lives that can no longer eat them Maybe the spring weather influences toxins one way or the other

I used to eat a ton of them as a kid and I get ill from them now. If it is beer or morels, I am sure going to miss the mushrooms.

That fungi crap growing on the floor of the woods , and full of insect larva , ain't meant for human consumption.

Specialy when there's lots of real food available

Lesson learned! Although I don’t think the punishment fit the crime

I pick and sell up to 10 or more species of mushrooms at our farmers markets. When asked I always caution people to: 1. Never eat wild mushrooms raw, and 2. Consume a very small portion when trying a new one for the first time. Never know if you might have an allergic reaction to something new.

I've never understood why anyone would eat such nastiness.

Plus, misidentify those and it could kill you (or make you bad sick like it did the Op.)

Hopefully you aren't really allergic to morels.

Diane and I had a similar bad reaction to morels once. We've been okay eating them since. We hunted at the peak time and found 8 very full, plastic grocery bags worth of morels. We didn't drink anything the whole time we were out. All we ate, before we gorged on the morels, was a shared Reeses Cups We ate way more morels at once than we ever did before or after. Lesson learned.

You all are crazy. They are terrific. They need cooked just like Angela said and anyone can easily ID false morels, they don't even look like morels. I've been picking and eating them for over 50 years, drank a lot of beer in that time too and they ain't made me sick ever.

Morel gravy on elk backstrap was the first time I tried morels. Might have been the best breakfast I ever had.

I guess I'm safe, don't seem to grow around here, at least the L.I. mushroom search sites never mention them. There's several other varieties that people search for though.
