I live in Southern IL and am in KY a lot. I want to get my Nuisance Wildlife Control Permit but before I jump in the deep end I was wondering if anyone has any pointers. Do I need/want insurance? What do I charge? Any odd rules or loop holes I should be aware of? Thank you in advance!

Insurance will provide you with more job opportunities and peace of mind in the event something does go wrong or maybe someone is just out to give you a difficult time.

There is a long learning curve to pricing your market and setting up a growing business. Start up costs can be startling depending upon how versatile and in depth you want to become in which species you will be servicing.

If you are paying for insurance, advertising, equipment, vehicle insurance etc. you certainly need to cover your investment costs in order to stay in business. Becoming a business man is a big part of your new venture.

There is at times more contracting type work involved then the trapping/removal portion of the business. In fact most of the $$ can be in exclusion, repair and prevention services.

Insurance - yes.
Contact a lawyer and have him write up an LLC for you, it's more protections between your business and everything you own.
Even though I'm my only employee, and owner, legally I'm the Business Manager, an employee of my business.

Decide what animals You’re going to offer solutions for. Don’t have to do everything but the more you can do the more $ you’ll make. Most money will come from damage repair and exclusion, especially on roofs and elevated surfaces. Run it like a business, if you’re not making a profit then change some things, increase prices or decrease expenses or both. Act professionally and you’ll probably be treated as such. Definitely yes to the insurance, get a website and business cards and all that stuff

Excellence advice from all three guys.

When I first started doing this, I'm thinking, I'm not a handyman, I'm here to catch your animal, I don't do repair work. If you don't do repair work, make sure you know someone who does, who can help you out the day you remove the trap.

Of course you want to remove the animal, but IMO, making sure it doesn't happen again is more important.
