I skinned one out of Glacier county in the early 1980s. It is in N/NW MT.

Yeah, I remember a nature documentary from the late 1970s or even maybe as recent as the early 1990s where they were following a wolverine around crossing the divide in nw MT.

If there's now a few jaguars around in southeast AZ, I have no doubt there are few wolverines around in Montana northern Rockies.

Wolverine populations are rather suddenly increasing and expanding all over the west, from Washington to California, and from the sage brush country in arid regions, to the mountains, and all the way to the pacific beaches.
It's a pretty interesting phenomenon. They are poping-up on trail cameras, and on people's personal cameras with more and more freqency.

A rancher shot one just out of Bismarck ND a few years ago. That is a lot of open prairie to cross to get there.

Been a few years, but Michigan had a Wolverine turn up in the Thumb area of the Lower Peninsula back in 2004 or so. It remained in a large wetland complex there (Minden Bog) for several years before it croaked. It's carcass was discovered fresh enough that it was mountable and it is now displayed near there. The animal was sorta kept track of by an area teacher named John Ford. He wrote a book about the beast.

The big hand wavy ecologists, climate changers, put-money-in-our-hands NGOs, etc. all tend to forget two important variables: 1) human knowledge is not complete, and 2) critters have a vote in their existence smirk

That is an older photo. It's made the rounds for a while.

Wolverine are more frequent in MT than many realize. There are nice ones prime in winter in the mountains here.

Tracks are seen much more than they themselves.

I remember when "authorities " in Idaho used to swear that there were no grizzlies in parts of the northern panhandle. When locals saw them frequently, who lived there.

I would think it would be the other way around. Anything that could be used as an excuse to lock up more of our forests from being used has always been a profitable venture for some in office. That finally happened with the rules for bear hunting there and in parts of MT where grizzlies are common.

I hope , as more of us sight wolverine in our areas, that trapping and hunting will not be affected . They have certainly been here for much longer than what was generally thought.
