Yeah I'm super excited! I'm planning on trapping muskrats, coon, mink, coyotes, fox, opossum, and squirrels. Welcome to Trapperman by the way!

Welcome to T-man!

I am definitely excited for next season! I hope to trap wolf, marten, lynx, fox, and wolverine. Squirrels and rabbits will also be on the target list because I need bait.

Is it worth it for me to trap rabbit and squirrel for bait before I go for coyote and fox?

P.S thanks for the welcome. :))

Welcome Nathaniel. Check your game laws and seasons to make sure Pa allows the use of small game animals for bait, Lure and professionally made bait may be the best way to go,

I used Dukes too when I first started out, but now I have several different brands of traps. What size traps do you have?

For me it is. Rabbit and squirrels have no limit or closed season for my game unit, so I start trapping them a few weeks before trapping season starts. I also caught my first marten using a chicken we butchered, so the bait doesn’t matter as long as the animal goes for it! grin

The birds would probably get to them before any other animal does. Also my laws in PA don't allow trapping of squirrels or rabbits before the season so I will most likely purchase lure or bait.

P.S Going to auctions and flea markets is fun for finding trapping equipment. smile

I caught my first and so far only fox using a dead chicken and a whole skinned squirrel. If you bury the bait birds won't be able to get it

I don't know much about #4s but from what I've heard they might be too big for fox. Might want to get some #1.5s or #2s for fox
